I ALWAYS avoid talking about death.
Why? Because it is such a morbid and serious topic. Because people are so very afraid of it that they get mad at anyone who brings it up.
I go to a tiny, shrinking church full of old people terrified of death. They talk all around it and relax by exchanging viscious gossip at a speed that would make Chinese ping-pong players jealous.
The idea that as people grow old they achieve a certain peace is absurd. That may have been true 50 years ago, but death is a forbidden thing now.

Yes, sometimes I do avoid it, but there are times when it is unavoidable. My parents are elderly, both in their eighties and today I found out that my dad's prostate cancer has spread through his spine and sternum. When it comes to these times you really can't avoid it. The probably of it is right there staring you in the face. I've already dealt with the death of my oldest brother and both sets of grandparents.
As long as we are on this sinful earth we have to deal with it whether we want to or not and just pray that the Lord comes soon to take away our diseases, tears and everything else that is harmful to us and evil. Yes, I'm a Christian and am proud to be one.

i think it's important to think and talk about it because it is a reality, albeit an unfortunate one. avoiding intense or scary discussions doesn't make an issue go away, it makes the issue worse.
