" The Dark at the Top of the Stairs" was a movie that explored the secret fears of all the main characters. The five year old boy in the movie was afraid of going upstairs because it was dark at the top. This was the metaphor for the storyline.

I think I've faced most if not all of my fears. I've faced my fear of cockroaches head on. I've already faced financial ruin head on. I've survived abuse of all kinds. Let's see...I've done rejection. I've already experienced losing dear, loved ones. I've done being homeless and jobless for a short bit. I've done having no one to depend on but myself, I've faced betrayal, and most recently I faced my own mortality (I think this was my worst fear). I've been through so many changes and upheavals in my life, and I've always survived. I've been treated like sh*t, and I've also been treated like royalty. Through it all I always managed to keep my head above water, and as a friend of mine puts it, I always seem to land on my feet. I mean, what's the worst that could happen: humiliation? Death? Not being good enough for someone else? Pain (physical and emotional)?...All these are trivial things in the face of your indomitable spirit.

This is going to sound odd. My secret fear is that I'll realize that all of my fears are unwarranted and then I won't have anything to use as an excuse for not moving forward. I most certainly have a great fear of that dark at the top of the stairs. But a worse fear is that if I climb the staircase and get to the top, I'll see that there is nothing to fear and I'll be forced to walk further and face all that I have hidden away and told myself is untouchable. And my fear is definitely.......having to face 'the truths' out there in the world. So I use my superficial fears to mask my deeper fears. What an odd bird I am. *sigh*

Good question. While I, and probably everybody else fears rejection, financial failure, sickness, and a myriad of important and trivial things, my biggest fear is that when the end comes (none of us are getting out alive) I look back and regret the the things I didn't do. The things I didn't say. Maybe I didn't because of fear or because of selfishness. It really doesn't matter which. The fear of living a life incomplete is a major factor for me to do what my heart tells me. The lesser fears of day to day life tend to be obviated.

Seeing a reflection in the kitchen window that's not mines! Especially when the curtains aren't down, or there are no curtains. Or a reflection of anyone that's not there! Or in the car going home or parking at night when backing up!
Once I scared myself using those facial mask which was green. I think it happens to every women out there! Day or night.

My fear is a bit embarassing so please don't tell anyone......... basements. If other people are around I'm fine, but if I'm alone I get scared and literally have to run back upstairs. This has been going on since I was a child. Something horrible is lurking in basements and I'm not going to be the one it catches.

Sometimes I think a hand is going to reach out from under the bed at night & grab my ankle. LMAO! Gotta knock it off with watching horror movies before I go to sleep.
