Why not both? Unfortunately, people are programmed to believe you can only have one or the other. I always compare it to someone asking, what's more important, my vision or my hands? Both. Neither one is more important. They are both necessary, just like happiness and earning an income.
I would like to recommend a book for you. It's called Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker. I cannot tell you how valuable that book is, particularly to a student who is just setting their course. It is not just about earning money and changing your money blueprint, but it can be applied to all aspects of your life.....the end result is true happiness as well as an extraordinay income. Doesn't get any better than that!

While our society is unfortunately based on money and material things, neither of these can create (or act as a substitute for) happiness.
You should do what you are happy doing. Because - if you are happy, then you will surround yourself with positive energy, and somehow all the other minor things (like money and stuff) will sort themselves out.
Keep in mind that nothing is ever absolute, so you may change your path several times in life. However, it is always nice to be able to look back on your life and say: Yep, I have changed direction a few times, but I have always been happy doing what I do. :-)
Good luck :-)

The greatest thing I look forward to in life is doing something that I'm gonna love. When you love what you do, you do it well. That's also great because you can share your happiness with others.
On the other hand, money is important in life. It is a means of survival, but don't pick a career based solely on money. Who wants to wake up everyday and dread going to work?
Basically, I say you find something you love that will support you in everything you do. College is about exprerimenting, so try out new stuff, get an internship. I'm sure you'll find something you'll love.

DOING WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! Some people like what they do and just happen to make a lot of money doing it. I know a lot of people who make a lot of money but have no time to enjoy life because their job is too demanding. Trust me on this, doing what makes you happy will be so much more worthwhile. Listen to your heart...

Its depends on your mentality, but as far as for me doing things which make us happy is important and making money is secondary and if you are happy with the work you are doing then money will come automatically as you can work efficiently and with intrest which makes your work a success..

Making a lot of money first & saving it while you are young and have plenty of energy & drive. Then you can slow down and do what makes you happy, cause you'll be able to afford!
