What is the best way for reshaping vinyl??

It's a hat that is part of my halloween costume, it kinda got smashed and it needs help standing up and pointing out (pirate's hat). I've heard use a blow dryer, but what do you think?? Thanks in advance.

Put a kitchen towel over the costume and use a blow dryer.
