My ex husband is in prison for a one time sale of crack to a dea. He has a mandatory 5 min. Though I have a different life outside his, we remain friends and I try to set him straight. We divorced because he was constantly stressed how to make money and when things went wrong he panicked and did something stupid.....his career was not drugs. He was an expert chef and great at construction. But mandatory min laws in NJ gave him 5 years when murder, rape and phedophilia has warranted less in many cases.....does anyone find this as horrible as I do? Don't get me wrong... I am near remarried and am not in love with him nor do I have a cross to bear...but I do not think this is fair nor want to be a tax payer paying for it.

Only 5 yrs??? But you did say you were in NJ. That is pretty typical for the New England area of the country. Good thing he didn't get caught in Turkey. An ex Air Force friend of mine got caught dealing there. They shot him.

I, for one, am quite happy to spend some of my tax dollars feeding and boarding crack dealers in prison. 5 years???? Not too steep in my opinion.

I do agree that murderers, rapists and pedophiles should get harsher sentences, but it is up to lawmakers and law enforcers in each case.

I know a lot of people who are "stressed on how to make money" and do not sell crack. There is no excuse. He is getting what he deserves. I don't think you'll find many sympathizers...

5 years is probably long enough.
Maybe - just maybe - he'll learn his lesson and try to live by the rules of our society when he gets out. If not, we'll still be here when he's ready to come back.
