"Running Man," made around 1984, and shown, exactly once, on MTV's Liquid Television around 1992.
"Running Man" was part of a larger anime movie (name forgotten). It's about a race car driver and his attitude --it's perfect, the best cartoon ever made.

Kimba The White Lion is from the creator of Astro Boy. It is the TV series that many believe inspired the Disney film The Lion King. A young lion cub learns the responsibilities of being a monarch in the jungle. Space Battleship Yamato was released in the U.S. under the title "Star Blazers." The 3 TV seasons have been dubbed into English, the 5 movies have not. Initially, it is the story of a brave band of people who make the longest journey into space that mankind has ever attempted, in order to restore the Earth to vitality before it is too late. Space battles galore, but it is the drama and the characters that hook you. Steamboy is a film about a 19th century where steam is the driving force behind everything. A boy receives a metal sphere from his granddad that holds enough supercompressed steam to drive a mighty machine for days. Almost immediately, agents for the company his dad and granddad work for come to reclaim it, but a note from Ray's granddad instructs him not to let it fall into their hands. While visually stunning, the plot is too simple for an over two hour movie. The "science" is pseudo, and "dead" characters keep coming back to life so often, it becomes a running joke. Recommended only for the pretty pictures. Additional: Kimba was remade as "The New Adventures of Kimba" in the 90's. While I've not seen the remake, people who have say to steer clear of it. Classic Kimba is available from The Right Stuf. There is also a movie called "Jungle Emperor Leo." which puts a conclusion to the original series. The DVDs of "Star Blazers" are dub-only, and are available from any decent retailer of anime. The Yamato films (sub-only) should be available from the same places. Steamboy is available on hybrid DVD.

It's definitely a subjective question; you could easily ask 100 different people and get 100 different answers. Everyone had different tastes and preferences -- some lean towards comedy, some towards action, some towards thrillers.
That said, of course, I do have my own picks. Limited to the realm of anime, I would have to submit my first vote for Fullmetal Alchemist. It balances character development, plot progression, humor, drama, and action wonderfully; if you include the movie, there is a definite ending that still leaves room for the imagination.
My other pick would be FLCL. Only six episodes but revolutionary in its presentation, it's well worth taking three hours out of your day to see it. Also, the soundtrack by the pillows is worth a listen as well.

Hrmm, are we talking series? or Movie
If we are talking movie, a Mayazaki movie like Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke are not only great movies but both hold the top 2 records respectivly in Japan for bigest money makers of all time! pluse they just rock, I like Mononoke best.
In anime series, Trigun has to be one of the best of all times, has everything you could want; action, comedy, romance, drama, big eyes and a cat in every episode! I love Berzerk too except for how they end it (sigh)

Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's got a perfectly crafted story and well developed characters. Plus the fight scenes are amazing.
