having seen both bands, and being a guitar instructor myself, i can say without hesitation that at every performance, megadeth was WAY tighter.
and think about it, mustaine was the original lead guitar player for metallica. if james thought he was better, he'd have wanted that job himself.
not saying james is a slacker, he's certainly not. but, as far as lead playing goes, dave owns it. they're roughly even as backing players, but mustaine still edges out hetfield there.
and slash and Ace Frehley are awesome, but they play a whole different way. its like comparing chinese food and ice cream. both are great, but way different.

Well I perferr Metallica over Megadeth. But I listen to both. And have to say Dave Mustaine is better. He plays both lead and rythm guitar. Were James sticks to mostly rythm playing. So Dave most likely has more skill. Atleast on record. Untill I here James shred thats my opinion

Metallica all the way...better musiciens in metallica,perfect riffs and solos,solid riffs,funny to play songs on guitar(im a guitarist),awesome performances,they look cooler which is not so important,heatfield vocals owns mustain's anyday,hammett makes better solos,metallica had Cliff and jason and Rob and they are monsters of heavy metal.
I think all metallica songs are unique in thier own way and they are all perfect...
u cant compare Mustain with hetfield(mustain is lead player and james plays rhytm)...so compare him with hammett and see how kirk owns

I love both Metallica & Megadeth!!!
In comparing,
James is a great singer, composer & songwriter.
(quite a well guitarist)
Wheras,
Dave is a great guitarist, composer & songwriter.
(quite a well singer...)
Simply, they both get 3 points, which makes both bands, brilliant!

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. MegaDave is the far superior guitar player. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't know squat about the instrument.
As far as who is the better band... it's pretty even. But if I was paying money to see one of them, it would be Megadeth.
