When the lead singer said, like she was ashamed that Bush was from Texas... I personally agree with her, because I can really say he's been the worst president this country has ever seen. Don't believe me? Then tell me, who was the worst president of the US? I think that they might have lost many of their so called "fans" but atleast they spoke freely, spoke truthfully; told the truth. I agree with her, I'm also ashamed that Bush is from Texas because I'm from Texas...In fact, I'm embarassed I'm from Texas now becuse of all that he has done, which is NOTHING, NOTHING good. Do you agree or disagree with what the Dixie Chick's said? Do you agree with me? Why? (Can't keep this issue out of my head)

Brave?
I suppose so.
But, it was foolish of them/her to speak out like that.
Bush was born in New Haven, Connecticut. So he is only a transplanted Texan. Besides, where a person is from has only a minor effect on what they are like and what they believe in.

People always blame a president for mistakes and sadly, they usually make decisions based on the information that is fed to them by the numerous intelligence gathering people who are behind the scenes. So it is not always the fault of a president if things go badly. But the chief spokesperson is the one who gets saddled with the blame.

Of course this'll really piss off the conservatives but it's the truth so $hit on 'em.

Yes, they WERE brave. They knew that the little minds would go bonkers because they DARED to criticize the "President". They probably knew that it would cost them a lot of record and ticket sales. And, sadly, it has.

But they also knew that Americans have a right to criticize their "leaders" and their government, whether it's popular or not and I think they did our country a great service.

I wish that the clowns in Bozo the Congress had shown the same courage in questioning Bush The Lesser over the Iraq Disaster.

Unfortunately, there are a LOT of people who have confused patriotism with mindless flag-waving and don't realize that sometimes the best thing you can do for your country is to holler good and loud when it goes off the rails.

I only wish our "leaders" in Congress and the White House had shown the sense and courage of the Dixie Chicks.

And, while we're at it, can ANYBODY tell me why it's wrong for entertainers like the Dixie Chicks or Barbra Streisand to express political opinions but it's OK for Charlie Daniels or Toby Keith because they support Bush? Do people tell Charlie or Keith to "Shut up and sing?"

Don't ALL entertainers have a right to express an opinion?

And why is Rush Limbaugh more "qualified" to pontificate on current events than the Dixie Chicks? Is it because Rush used his hemmorhoids to dodge the draft? Is he better educated? I doubt it. He has NO college degree at all.

Also no class.

I mostly disagree with what they said. Agree that they had the right to say it. But it obviously wasn't brave for them to say it. It was just stupid. It's not like that statement really said anything. Who was the worst president? Impossible to say, really. Maybe Lincoln or Johnson or Wilson. It all depends on your own opinion. Any of these three have done much worse. Lincoln allowed a civil war, Johnson escalated a war and instated a draft, Wilson changed the Constitution to make an income tax legal.

The Dixie Chicks can't have it both ways. If you want to be known for your music and liked or hated for your music, then keep your opinions to yourself and JUST PLAY. If you insist on announcing your opinions in a public venue, then you have to acknowledge the possibility that some will use their own freedom to disagree with it. If the opposite had happened and their popularity expanded because of the comment, would they still be complaining about the attention their receiving not being about their music? I doubt it.

First off, Bush is by far the furthest from being the worst President. Buchanan, Grant and Clinton hold the title of being tied for the worst President ever. As for the Dixie Chicks, it was stupidity not bravery that made them be ashamed of a rightfully elected leader. Any fool stupid enough to piss off their fan base is not brave, they are a business risk. Being a musician (was one for 18 years) you really have no point in speaking politics. You are an entertainer not a propoganist. People hate musicians and actors being involved in the political realm, it shows the entertainers to be hypocritical. As for being ashamed, I am ashamed the dixie chicks are Americans.

I take my hat off to those GALS. Brave yes if they would have known how huge an outcry it would cause and if they would have known it would rock their careers.(no pun intended) So in that instance bravery did not count. However now that they DO know how much outcry more such comments can cause, and the fact that they continue to stand by what they said with pride, they are INDEED BRAVE.
I believe it takes a true AMERICAN, one who loves their country heart and soul to use their celebrity platform to be outspoken and speak for the many of us who do not have such a podium.

As I get more frustrated about the existence of BUSH and his continued assault on our democracy, his soul-less stnace on which lives are important and which are not, I wish more celebs would come out and RANT against the RUNT!!

Especially before midterms. Thanks for the Q, Mel

Yes, I think they were very brave to stand up for what they thought was right at a time when most of the country was in mass confusion.. I would be ashamed to be from Texas too, but I don't think I would have been brave enough to admit it back then... So I guess I wouldn't be ashamed to be from Texas after all (because of them).

In my opinion, I think it is a freedom of speech and they are trying to promote their music at the same time. Now, the people think difference and it is normal that the Lib likes them while the Conservative hates them. For myself I want the best for our American and let's elect the good people for our country and change what we are doing now, It is about time we admit our wrong direction and get out of wars and take care our be loved American who does so much for the world. I am glad that you ask this question because, you care about others and your country and I am honor to answer this question.

They have the right to disagree with the president, but they are a bunch of whiny liberals that sit in their comfy mansions while their illegal immigrant workers cut their lawn. They don't care. They go on Larry King, Oprah, and other shows to promote their new documentary and music. They could care less about speaking out. They are three ugly women that want to play off their controversy, don't you understand that? They didn't say what they wanted to in the right context. These fans in London or wherever they were wanted to hear music, that's why they paid money. Not to hear the political opinions of musicians that only know how to play bluegrass music. They make me sick to be honest with you.

I think those who criticize the DCs for speaking their minds about Bush need to reevaluate their definition of democracy. Criticizing our leaders is not "unpatriotic," it's the most patriotic thing we can do in a country that was birthed with the idea that educated individuals have a right to speak against corrupt leaders.

They haven't faced a firing squad, but yes, considering the political slant of many country music fans, I guess you can say their stand was a gutsy move.

Still, I think "brave" should be reserved for those willing to offer their lives, time and money to a cause.
