Washinton seems to beleave that its not up to employer or the government to provide health care . and also beleaves that 5 dollars and 35? cents is alivable wage. if that be so , why is it that "WE" the tax payers pay for government and state workers insurance, and pay wages more then we have to by law ? or is it just me?

Good question. I think it comes from not knowing what it is like being the regular workin man in this country. I think they should all give it a try and then get back to us on their belief that we can live off it.

If you think having the government provide health care is a good idea, take a walk through the halls of a Canadian hospital. That is where you will find half the patients sleeping on their gurneys at night because there are no rooms for them. But those patients are the lucky ones. Plenty are on waiting lists with no hope of living long enough the get the surgery that will save their lives.
As for minimum wage, it was never meant to be a livable wage. It was meant to be a MINIMUM wage. However, since the last increase was pushed though, it is now at a level one can live on. And take a look at the sharp increase in unemployment that occured after this last increase went through. It also became more difficult for young people to get that first job. If an employer is forced to pay such a high wage, they do not want to take a chance on an unknown. They want someone with experience who can do the job well without much training. And when they are operating on an already very small profit margin, and salaries are their biggest expense, that is where they will make the cuts. You now have one person doing the job that it previously took two the do. If you add the expense of mandatory health insurance on top of that, employers will be forced to make more cuts. That minimum wage is not designed to support a family on, it is designed to give people a start. If you prove that you are worth more money, you will get more.

I am not a government worker and I am for increase minimum wages for all as well as National Health Care. I am a taxes payers for almost 32 years and so on.In my opinion it is so sad to hear and it makes me sick at my stomach. Believe me my heart and soul go for the working poor in this country as well as the middle class who can not afford Health care. ( I can not drive a fancy car down my road while my people work so hard for 6 bucks per hour and can not see the doctors when he or she get sick ) I urge you all write your Congressmen and Senate as well as the White House. May be that the ultimate answer for your question.

Great question and as a government employee, I have no easy answer except I am an advocate for an increased minimum wage as well as affordable health care to ALL American citizens.

I am sure if you are willing to double or triple your taxes, they can provide basic insurance. But then they would also have to make all medical care part of the government, no more private doctors.

healthcare in this country is a joke. we are the most powerful nation on this planet and we can't even insure little kids and help to rid the country of hunger and poverty. Instead our govt would rather spend billions on a useless war.
