Kind of a hard question to answer in a specific way, but here goes:
Be yourself and don't give in to peer pressure or the "style of the moment"
Look for the good in others instead of the negative
Try to be helpful when a situation calls for it
Don't complain about your problems too much to others, because they have their own problems
Listen more than you talk. It's easier to learn by listening than by talking.
Don't give in to the urge to always say yes to what others want/need. You have to think of your own needs, too.
Try to keep learning your entire life, whether it's by reading books, opening your mind to new ways of thinking, going to different places you may not have thought of seeing, not closing your mind to experiences, meeting new people. Just when you think you "know a lot," you'll find out how little you really do know!!
Appreciate the little things in life: a pretty cloud, lovely-smelling flower, a cute child, a soft animal, a cool breeze, the sound of the ocean.
Be grateful for the good things/people in your life.
Don't be greedy and always want more, bigger, and better. Try to be satisfied with what you have. Material possessions don't bring satisfaction.
Hope this helps!

Lots of things to do to become good.
Heres one idea, but not the complete answer to your question. I really don't know how to NEVER make mistakes.
When you complain about the behaviour/actions of someone else take a deep look at yourself and ask yourself weather you have ever done something like that. Then the next time your first response is to repeat it you can take a moment to do it better.
Own up to your faults, think about them and your reasons for doing them, then try to do things a little differently.
I make my biggest mistakes when I don't take time to think about what I'm doing and the consequences.
Most of all- be happy and spread it around : )

Such a difficult question!
I think there's not a recipe or guide to become a good person...it's an indivudual choice...but we can 'start' with simple but deeps facts:
-don't hurt to anybody (you know what kind of things cause us pain, so try no to repeat this pattern)
-love your partner as you would like to be loved (everybody has a soul and this soul is pure, is brilliant and beautiful..since we are all God's children, so, everyboy deserves respect and support)
-try to be happy and spread this happiness with every single person you can share it!

Try to put yourself in the position of other people, and think how you would feel if you were them. Always use your manners and be polite, respect other people, extend small kindnesses towards others, listen to your concience.

Just change your behaviour. you are the way in which you behave. I read a quote saying don't listen to a politician, or wonder what he is doing - examine his motives - I thought it was Plato - but can't find it again!
