the Intel Celeron 355 3.33GHz is the LAST cpu i would want.i put it there because of the price and the speed.put what you would reomend at the bottom after you put them in order from best to worst.

you have quite a range of processors there my friend,,, for strong gaming applications a celeron is not the best option,, it lags too much,, ,,, ok i did some research on these ,, and obviously your looking to spend about 80-100 bucks on this,, and you have a socket 775 board,, also called a socket T board,, based on my findings,, and research,, i used input and info from Tigerdirect.com, Newegg.com, ZipZoomFly.com and Laptops4Me.com,, which are my 4 main choices of internet vendors,,

one suggestion,, if you do not plan to use the stock heat sink and fan provided w. the retail packages,, youd be better off buying the open box or OEM models,,, and purchase the heatsink and fan of your choice,, you could save as much as $25 on the processor,, and you can apply that to the cost of the other hs and fan,,

Pent 4 541 has very good reviews,, and is priced at 99 retail, and a little over 88 for open box,,, and you can probably overclock to as high as 3.7 or 3.8 if board can handle it,,

pent 4 531,, complaints of running hot is a big issue,,

pent d 805,, big complaints of a power hog,, and a super heater,, most people said you could fry bacon on it,,, but it does have a 96% overall satisfied rating of 4 or 5 on Newegg.com and it runs 95 bucks ,, most say its the best dual core bargain out there,,,,

didnt find much about the celeron,, but thats not for gaming anyhow,,, leave it alone,, will only be wasted money

ratings,,

if you want single core primarily,,,,
pent 4 541, then pent d 805 , then pent 4 531, and celeron

if you want the dual core primarily,,
pent d 805, pent 4 541, pent 4 531, and then celeron

i would go with the
1.Pentium D
2.pentium 4 541 3.20ghz
3.pentium 4 531 3.0ghz
4.celeron 355 3.33ghz
stay away from the celeron it isn't good for gameing.you would be best off going with the p4 541 3.20 because most of the games don't use the dual core.my second pick would be the pentium D but go to the next step they are better and about $10 more you will have a faster chip and will work better.be sure you have a good heatsink and fan or water cooling.if you want to over clock than get a GOOD water cooling.

The Pentium D and the two P4s are basically all roughly equivalent, I would say the Pentium D since it will be better for multitasking. The Celeron lags behind, Celerons are cut down Pentiums. I beg you though, just step up to the Pentium D 820 for $99:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116213
It is a decent step up from any of the 4 you have listed.

EDIT: Let me just clarify why I rated them the way I did to make it clear. The Pentium 4s have a higher clock speed and FSB than the Pentium D, but the D is dual core, and that helps it make up some of the ground, making them roughly equivalent. The Celeron has a low FSB and is only single core, plus it is lacking in cache. The reason the 820 is better is because it is dual core but has the same FSB as the Pentium 4s. Take a look at the benchmarks I give for a performance comparison.

From the FSB and processor speeds I would place them like this.

4.Intel Pentium 4 541 3.20GHz

2.Intel Pentium 4 531 3.0GHz

3. Intel Celeron 355 3.33GHz

1.Intel Pentium D 805 2.66GHz

Intel Pentium D is the most recent one out there. The D stands for Dual-Core and it's a lot faster, not because of the 805 2.66GHz but because it can run multiple programs through the processor at that speed. If you want more info look on dell's website at www.dell.com. You don't have to buy one there, but they tell you all you need to know about each processor if you look around. Stay away from Intel Celeron, it's a cheap knock-off. At the very least go with Intel Pentium 4 541 3.20GHz.

Additional info: If you are wanting a good gaming PC, it is not JUST the processor and Video Card that matter though. Although, you shoule make sure you have AT LEAST 128MB of memory on that video card to play good games. Most of all make sure you have A LOT of RAM. AT LEAST 1GB, but I would shoot for 2GB. If you don't have at least 1GB, you'll never play the games you are wanting to play.

GOOD LUCK!!!

You wouldn't want a Celeron as they are a cut down version of the full Pentium chip.

Are you sure all these would fit your board? If you're sure then I like the speed of the p4 3.2 - that's the chip I actually have & with 2 gig of RAM you can get away with having not a top of the line video card & still be able to play games on high settings with a decent frame rate.

I would go w/the Pentium D. The speed is not that much slower then the P4's, and more and more games are going to be making use of dual core processors. Check out prices and user reviews at Newegg.com

if those are my only choices...I think I would go with the Celeron first, it may be the cut down version of the P4, but it is much stabler than the P4 My second choice would be the pentium D. it may be the slowest rated out of the list, but at those speeds, you'll never notice, and that it handles information diffrently, making it faster than rated. after that, a P4 is a P4
