Wait a few days and if you still haven't gotten your period, retest. Use the first morning urine since this will have the highest amount of hormones.

Here's how your cycle works - assuming that you have regular 28 day cycles - your ovary releases an egg, the egg travels down the fallopian tube where it can become fertilized or not. If the egg gets fertilized your body begins producing hormones (hcg) and others that stop your uterus from shedding. If not, you have your period. So, count 14 days from the 1st day of your last period - that is the most ripe time to get pregnant +/- 2 days. If you do get pregnant you'd want to wait at least 2 weeks to ensure that there is enough hormone in your system for a pregnancy test to detect. Even the early response tests won't always give you the positive when it says it will. Your hormone levels start out small and double every 2-3 days after the egg is fertilized - every woman producing a slightly different amount starting off - so you really need to try again 2 weeks after your period ends. It's hard to wait - so if you can't - go to the doctor and they can test your hcg hormone level by doing a blood test. The blood test can detect super low levels of hormone and will most certainly give you a reliable result. Sometimes the store bought pregnancy tests are old, or just wrong because you performed the test incorrectly or it malfunctioned. Out of the 6 or so I've tried - I've had at least 2-3 bad tests. If you do try again - get a different brand at a different store and check the expiration date on the package. I suggest that you get as basic a test as possible - it's best to use one where you use the little dropper to dispense a certain number of drops of urine. Sometimes the pee on the stick test - will soak up too much urine and give a false positive.

In case of negative reports, you are advised to go for per vaginal checkup from your gynaecologist. If your doctor says that os is open it mean you are not pregnant then the cause may be other one like hormonal disturbance, anaemia etc.

You go to a doctor, you get the little cup to pee in, and you provide the doctor with a sample of your "mid-flow" pee. Ten minutes later, you know if you're pregnant or not.
