I just watched this movie, and had no idea why people were talking about it being anti-semetic. It seemed to follow the stories from the Bible fairly closely, and they didnt make any outrageous comments. I think if someone were to consider this anti-semetic, its like blaming history for making you look bad. What do you think?

The Jewish heirarchy have been blamed for two thousand years for causing the death of Christ. They asked the Romans to kill him. That blame has been extended to Jews in general.

The truth is it was the leaders of the Jewish temple who felt threatened by this new teacher. They needed to hold on to their power. They played on the Romans desire for order to put an end to him. The Roman governor was NOT to blame and neither was the Jewish population at large. It wasn't even all the members of the Sanhedrin. Their council was just as split on whether to let Jesus teach or kill him.

They were men dedicated to the status quo. Jesus rocked the boat.

I believe you're right in your evaluation of the movie. The world at large and especially Jews are upset by the fact that the truth was told as it appears in the gospels concerning the arrest, mock trial, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Because taken at face value, it would appear that the Jews were responsible for His death. The reality is that noone is responsible for the death of Jesus Christ and then conversely we are all responsible for His death. He came to earth with the express purpose of offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. It was the only way mankind could hope to have a relationship with a perfect God. So, noone race or nationality is responsible, all of mankind is responsible. The Jews were a tool used by God to bring about the events that led to the sacrifice of The Lamb that God Himself had provided.

It's like yelling racism when you get caught and arrested for breaking the law. The movie depicts Jews as coercing the Romans to crucify Christ. The account is historically correct.

Jesus replaced into sentenced to dying or crucified (can no longer undergo in concepts which) by capacity of the jews, and a few of them do no longer decide to be reminded of the reality, so something they do in comparison to, they call anti-semitic. it incredibly is a handy cop-out.

What the Jews did to Christ is one of the keystones of the original basis for antisemitism among Christians.

Some people believe that the Jews were portrayed as the enemy in the film, which is untrue because Jesus is Jewish and He's no enemy except to satan.

pretty much agree with you. it was called anti-semitic because it clearly showed the role of the Jews (particularly the high priests) in the crucifixion of Jesus. yeah, big surprise, i know, but that was what all the hubbub was about.

I don't think the Jews want to own up to their history. They had to be responsible for crucifying Jesus though because they were the high priests that had to handle the sacrifice and that is exactly what Jesus was--a sacrifice.
