Of course not. The logistics of 'getting rid' of the NHS would be almost impossible to implement and the idea of the service is as sound today as it was when invented. Paying for treatment is an option now, and many people take this option, but the worse off amongst the population would not be able to opt for this option at all. However there comes a time when the money coming in does not equal the amount spent and then it becomes critical to reduce loss making activities. Life saving operations should NEVER be finance based and should always be free, as should long term medication and treatment for (at present) no cure types of illness. However, operations which are 'less than necessary such as boob jobs because the lady has a phobia about being small breasted or men who want to be women should always require payment regardless of the sleepless nights they claim to have ... the problem is who is best qualified to make the list of what counts and what does not. Perhaps a question to ask is why the drug companies can make such huge profits off the back of people who are sick and need the treatment? These costs eat away at the P & L of hospitals and the NHS as whole probably more than operations ............

Now why would you want to do that? That's effectively the system the US has with the end result that the most expensive health system in the world provides the same life expectancy as Cuba.

Do you really want your health viewed as a revenue stream for corporations that could care less if you live or die, just so long as you can pay the bill. People travel from the US to India just to get operations done without losing their life's savings or their homes.

Did you know Ford pays more for healthcare than steel?

Does that really sound like a Utopia?

I think that would be very unfair for the poorer people of our country.
Foreign people won't even pay their bills. In the newspaper a few days ago, there was a piece on hospitals, and it was saying that foreign visitors owe our NHS over £2 million pounds for operations and treatments. The NHS was set up for everyone.
If people have got the money to go private, good luck to them, but i thhink our NHS needs our support, not take it away.

Do you really want the American system, where people are allowed to die because they can't afford medical fees?Where the home you own is never really yours because you may have to sell it to pay health bills?America has the most heartless system in the world, where health care is big business,& not a public service. You should thank your god for the NHS.
