IS the sun in SPACE or in the ATMOSPHERE?


Because the sun would be a satellite of Earth, right? HELP ME

The same question is already posted but; the sun is in space.

The sun is a million times the size of the earth.

Usually smaller objects orbit larger ones.... so you tell me what orbits what....

The sun, called "Sol" is in space. Earth's atmosphere is only 300 miles thick, while the sun is about 120 million miles away from Earth. The Earth does have a satellite, it's the moon. Actually, the Earth is one of the sun's satellites.

Other way around, earth orbits the sun. Also, earth's satellites are not within the atmosphere.

But what determines who is the satellite is who is doing the circling. Since the Earth orbits the Sun, Earth is the satellite of the Sun

The sun is in space. The sun is not a satellite of earth, unless you believe in acient greek mythology. The current belief however is that we are a satellite of the sun because its gravity holds our planet in orbit around it.

to respond to one of the answers, earth is the only planet with a sustainable atmosphere, but other planets have small or very thin atmospheres with small escape speeds.
