Yes they can, however the term species itself means that the two cannot have offspring from attempting to breed them together.
The two are not different species if offspring can come from the mating of the two.

They probably can, but wouldn't normally get the notion since their behavior is so different. The few crossbreedings among different species (such as cattle and buffalo) are usually done by artificial insemination. They belong to the same family of species just like donkeys and horses do so they can produce offspring (usually sterile). The feline and canine are different families so I doubt it can produce anything.
There is ONE feline species with a few oddball canine characteristics. Claws don't retract, male and female stay paired, etc. The cheetah gave zoo breeders fits before they finally figured out how to get a captive pair to breed. They aren't like the other big cats.

Humans have sex with horses and dogs. So of course different species can have intercourse. I've seen a little weiner dog humping a lion on Animal Planet. It was hilarious because the dog was so little and the lion was looking at the dog like it was crazy. But dogs hump on anything when they're in heat.

It is likely that two species could have intercourse, but like the answers before mine nothing would come of it, and in most cases the animals would not be attracted to each other to begin with.

no they cannot....the only exception is those close in relation i.e. a donkey can be bred with a horse resulting in a jackass which is sterile. it is a natural protection to keep the species pure. dog breeding started from breeding offspring that looked a certain way to other similar dogs, this is why a number of breeds look alike..for example, the labradoodle is a cross between a lab and a std poodle....they are trying to get this cross recognized as a breed. nature did not intend to produce mutant genetic mishaps.

A cat and dog could have intercourse but the female would not produce young. A donkey and a horses can mate and they would make a mule or a hinny, depends on which was the sire and/or dam.

technically they could but they couldn't conceive. generally animals tend to mate with their own species anyway. even gay ones. on occasion there are strange crossovers. you don't want to hang out with emus much -- they are kinda hot for humans.
