Yes, but very rarely is it a catastrophic blow out. Bike tires wear differently than a car, and need to be replaced more frequently. They are designed with SAFETY in mind, and are made to be stiff and durable (for most street bikes). Many manufacturers of motorcycle tires (Big brands like Dunlop, Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone etc) design tires for different applications, like racing, road touring, daily commuting, etc. wih very specific tires for specific bikes. I have owned a bike service center for years, and only seen a couple major blow outs in 25 years +. With that in mind, here ya go_
A front tire blow out will make the bike handle really heavy, it feels as though the bike takes a whole lot more energy to turn, and you definately want to keep the front wheel VERY straight, and gently apply the rear brake only to come to a stup. Stearing will be DRAMATICALLY affected, so a gradual slowdown, and easing off the road, is the only way to go. (I own and race many bikes, lots of experience).
REAR WHEEL BLOWOUT-this can be really severe, if it's a fast blowout, you will wobble and lose much of your ability to control the bike. You must try to move forward on the bike (move off the seat, lean forward over the tank, stand on the pegs with knees bent), and gently apply your front brake while cutting the throttle. the bike will tend to shake and wobble. you MUST NOT put on the back brake, and get the bike to a stop with the front brake only.
Both of these events are pretty survivable with a little pre-event practice.

I have had alot of motorcycles over the last 30 years and have never had a blow out. I'm sure it could happen but is probably the least likely thing to go wrong,Unless you run over something of course.I have wore tires down to the core and still don't worry about it.that was in my early years when funds were tight.Just keep good rubber on them and don't worry about it

yep...but you don't crash..you just pull over. It is much better to have a blow out on the back tire..then the front tire. The front tire is hard to steer when flat.

I have ridden for over 20 years and never had a blow out, only a flat. This does not mean your experience will be the same as mine or any other rider.
You can alway buy a retired police HD, they have run flat tires on them. Meaning they will run on a flat.

My rear tire went (actually, I spun the tire on the rim, tearing the valve stem out of the tube), and the rear end went to the left, turned the forks to the left to the stop, and rode it (sliding sidewise) to a stop like that, with a passenger on the back.

Yes they can. If you're going to use that as an excuse not to get one. You shouldn't get one.
Flimsy excuse.
