A HD is a separate little device which is installed in your computer itself, not the monitor, but the computer box or whatever you want to call it.

It does take advanced techniques to see the contents of deleted files, but knowledgeable people can do it. A couple years ago, a serial murderer in Kansas sent a floppy disk to the police to taunt them. They used recovery techniques and discovered material from his church and he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

There are programs which claim to clean your HD of deleted files. The most sure way is a program called WIPE, which removes all the contents of a HD so even the CIA would have troubles seeing things on it.

The reason this works is that files are stored, with their locations stored in a table at the front of the HD. This table records where all the file is, but when you delete in Windows, it only deletes the file location entries in the table. The contents are still in the HD, and can with work be retrieved.

I think by the word CPU, you mean the box which resides with your monitor, keyboard and mouse ( and Headphone, microphone and speakers as well).

Actually word CPU means the chip which is the heart of the computer, but most people call that box The CPU.

Anyway Hard Drive is a part in which we store all our data i.e. files and resides in that box popularly known as CPU.

Anyone cannot see your files which you have deleted from the hard-drive but computer hardware and software experts can see your deleted files and can recover them using some special software, even if you have removed them from 'recycle bin'. It is quite easy using the soft-wares like Norton Utilities and for hard-drive recovery soft-wares like Get Data Back.

But there are many software freely available which may be used to delete permanently i.e. data shredders. You can find them on net, to make sure the file deletion.

Hard drive is a separate device that is connected to the motherboard thru a SATA or IDE cable whereas the CPU is a chip fixed on the motherboard. For more info on computer parts, refer to http://www.build-gaming-computer-guide.com/gaming-computer-parts.html. very detail description of all the computer parts.

When you delete the file from your recycle bin, the file is not removed from the hard drive. In fact, it is moved to a hidden corner where the Windows can't find. Even if you format your hard drive, the file can still be retrieved thru some forsenic technology.

There are some software in the market that do remove the file totally. I have heard of it, but never try them myself.

the hard drive is a unit about the size of 3 1/2 by 5 inches and about a inch thick

the cpu is a chip not the hard drive and yes if the police wanted to see what was on your computer or hard droive even the deleted files they could do that formated or reformated

unless you got a program that rewrites all the sectors

Confusion about the initials CPU. That stands for "Central Processing Unit" or that is the "brains" of the computer, there are two main manufacturers, AMD and Intel. The CPU takes all those 0 and 1s and turns (processes) them into stuff we humans can relate to and understand. RAM is "Random Access Memory" that remembers stuff entered into the computer randomly and temporarily. HDD is "Hard Disc Drive", that is where all of your programs, O.S., and data are stored for later use. O.S. is "Operating System", there are several, Linux, Windows XP (Professional and Home Versions), and a few others. Windows XP actually is a program that runs on top of Microsoft DOS. DOS is "Disc Operating System" or MS-DOS is "Microsoft -Disc Operating System", which was used not all that long ago. It was used in the 1980's till the 90's until Windows first came out. IBM was the first company to create a O.S. for computers, that's why you hear a term "IBM Clone". That is what most computers are now, they are "clones" of the IBM computer.

Hi,
The location of the Hard Drive varies depenant upon the brand of the PC. In most "white box" generic brand PC they are located towards the front of the PC, near the Floppy Drive or CD-Rom drive but hidden behind the front panels. Anybody wth the correct hard drive recoevery software can view the files on your hard drive if it is moved to another PC.

Regards

steve

Hard drives are kept far away from the CPUs
HDDs are in the drive slots near the Power, Restart keys while CPUs are in the motherboard slots

The hard drive is assembled separately in a rack . The CPU is assembled in the mother board. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful
