My math teacher always said in algebra, what you do to one side, you do to the other. u= uncooked c= cooked 1u = 3c To get to 1 cup of cooked rice you divide 3c by 3.. using the rule of what you do to one side you do to the other, the equation becomes: (1u)/3 = (3c)/3 which equals: 1/3 u = 1c Now that you know how much uncooked rice you need to get one cup, you multiply the formula by the total needed. In this case it's 2. 2 x (1/3 u) = 2 x (1c) this equates to: 2/3u = 2c if you have trouble multiplying fractions, write out the 2 as a fraction: 2/1 x 1/3 Multiple the numbers on top together and multiply the numbers on the bottom together: 2 x 1 = 2 1 x 3 = 3 giving you, your fraction of 2/3 Note: Typically when writing alegbraic equations you don't but a 1 next to a letter. You just use the letter itself, the 1 is implied. The Math and work thus becomes: u = 3c 1/3u = c 2 x 1/3u = 2 x c 2/3u = 2c

Oh the old proportion problem.
X/2 = 1/3
Multiply both sides by two and you get
X = 2/3
2/3 a cup of rice is your answer. Not hard eh?

that answer was one right ,
now what is 2 divided by 3
thats the answer they want from you
because when we began one cup soaked up two cups of water
we dont want 3 cups this time
this time we only want 2 so to get how many cups we still gotta divide by three
