I think orientals is another word used (more in the past) to decribe asians. I don't think that it is an acceptable term from the asians point of view. Not all Asians are from the orient.

They basically mean the same thing. An Asian is from Asia. An Oriental is from "orient" which means "east." An Oriental can come from the near east or the far east.

Actually, orientals are Asians. i think all people who live in Asia are called Asians but there is a difference between those who live in central Asia and those who live in eastern Asia.
Asian is mostly used for people from India, Pakistan, etc...
Orientals are those from China, Korea, Japan, etc...

Oriental is used to decribe things, like oriental rug or oriental salad. Asian is the term to use for the people. No one says oriental people, do they?

They're the same thing !!! I have been overseas in the navy several times, I know... I've been to korea, japan, thailand,
phillippines, and hong kong too. They're all asian / or oriental.
Oriental means they're from the orient ... Goto school .. You might learn something.. It also helps if you pay attention instaed of gossipping and text messaging your little friends ..
Now that's a new concept !!!

They're the same. 'Orientals' is just politically incorrect to call people. Rugs and noodles can be called oriental, though.
