What I mean when I say “handed” is not having to work for anything etc. I feel like there are so many stuck-up young people who have never had to work for anything, because it’s all given to them. It seems like there are a lot who think of themselfs as “better” or “cooler” then other people because of what they wear, who they hangout with, what they drive, so on and so forth... when the reality is that if their parents didn’t give it all to them then they would be no greater then the people they look down on. For me, I had to work for things when I was younger so I thought twice before spending $200 on a pair of jeans. I’’m not saying there is anything wrong with having/spending money, it’’s just I think young people should obtain it for themself... Any thoughts?

Hahaha is there anyone in "beauty and style" that isn't a teen? Whatever, by the way, I'm not exactly ancient... I'm a "young adult". Personally I think quite a few of you sound stupid.

(And no, I'm not saying the people who actually have something good to say are stupid). :)

yes they are .. its the generation of parents that have give there kids more than what they had as akid and etc.. A new generation of kids and parents etc.. That's the way it is give them more and parent less and let them run amuck etc. That's what happen when your parents are in high school and get pregnant in the late 80's and 90's and they grow up with there kids and act like they are best friends instead the parental figure. Its a generational curse. when ppl start being parents again then kids won't be such materialistic brats.. those 80's babies learn from there idols : Paris Hilton and etc 80's born stars

I think that most of these parents are trying to give their children what they didn't have. What's really sad is that yes, these kids may finish high school and go on to college...but that they think because they have this money cushion they can wait around for their modeling or acting career to take off. Or maybe they'll be a famous director, singer, or music producer. When in reality if they had the talent they'd be one of those things and all the lessons in the world can't give you talent. As long as their goals are realistic and they have a good work ethic they will end up fine. But so will you and anyone else who does that. For the people who have the money and see nothing wrong with it...I think you're a bit defensive...No one has taken any personal attacks towards you. This was a generalized question towards a specific "type" of person. So, get off your high horse people the world doesn't revolve around you and that just proves that you think you're superior to others.

I totally agree, but you also learn what you live. Their parents are obviously not slackers, they are not working minimum wage paying jobs. They will also follow in their parents footsteps and go to college, work a job through high school, maybe aim for one a little better then fast food, filing in an office or something, maybe a receptionist, and then try to show some good work ethics, not talking about your "recently pierced bellybutton with other coworkers, who could careless, in front of clients." They are aiming higher, whether they realize it or not, just because of their examples. You can do it too, and one day a $200 pair of jeans will be a luxury you will TRULEY appreciate, and hopefully enjoy, without guilt, every once in a while. Set some goals, stay focused, and don't be jealous...God is an equal opportunity employer..

No, by all means it is not just you. I see it all the time. These rude, selfish, superficial teens that go around acting like they are superior to anyone who dosn’t have much money, wear/do the same things etc.
A lot of them aren’t afraid to display their wanna be Paris Hilton outlook. I myself grew up with plenty of money, but I still had to work for what I wanted most of the time.
I think it's time for people to wake up and realize there are more important things in life. But really though, there are so many people who are in need...it's just sickening to see the way some act.

It must just be your area of the country, because I've never been handed anything in my life, and I don't know a whole lot of people that have, maybe 1 or 2 of the girls that I went to high school with, that's about it.

i have to agree with you im a young adult at the age of 20. and i agree kids these days are being handed everything. i have paid for everything i own since i was 14 years old, i pay for own college, i work fulltime, and have an apartment, my mommy and daddy dont had me new cars for my birthday etc. I just think kids these days are way to lazy and need to get out there and actually work for a living.

It's just you, and if not majority disagrees.

......

I find nothing wrong with spending my parents money, especially if they have enough of it to pass around.

People do have their own bias opinions, as I do too, but yours obviously sucks.

No one works anyways, it's a waste of time, and besides there's way too much going on at school and everyone needs a social life, work would just get in the way.

If working isn't required I see no point of squandering energy.

Old people & their old ways.

Argh.

for one, I hate it when people say "young people"
and a good number of people (or as you say it "young people") have to work to get what they want. I know I have to work to get what I want, like a car.

not all of them do not have to work
