My daughter LOVES her game cube. She also has a Nintendo DS which she plays a lot too. She is really into Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokemon. They like girl makeup, music, a CD player w/headphones, any kind of jewelry, books, ask parents she might want a hamster...you can get a gift certificate for her to take 3 or 4 friends to the show or roller skating. Sponsor a sleep over - her mom and dad would love that too! ;>

A lot depends on how much you intend to spend. Most girls that age love trendy clothes. Like from Limited Too or Justice. My 10 year old and friends are all into these Tomagotchi 3 toys (about $15. at Walmart or Target).
Gift cards are always a hit too.

Girls that age like crafts and hobbies. Often they play a sport. So craft materials, science kits, craft kits, sports equipment, are all good possibilities.
I once got my niece a science experiment book and all the materials to complete the experiments.

Also, girls that age shop at a clothing store called Justice these days.

i have two nieces of that age and your right its so dam hard to decide on what to get.

what i do is ask their mother, she knows best of all what they need and don't need.

the last couple of years i've taken the girls out shopping with me and i let them decide on what they want. of course i gave them limit of what they can spend.

that seems to be working really good. the other option is give them money, they can buy whatever they want wether its now or later or better still if they had brains the would bank the money.

I think a craft project is always a winner. Maybe a bead kit or friendship bracelet kit etc..

Anything girly or crafty....how about a gingerbread house kit that she can put together? A kit to make her own jewelry, purse, or pillow. Lipgloss, make-up, jewelry...that kind of stuff.

Does she enjoy reading at all? Get her three easy to read and very funny books that are about girls her age. Read one with her and use character voices. Be consistent.
