The Printing press.

It gave a new meaning to the act of communication.

Everything else was relative. The Bing Bang, creation of fire, the wheel, Mothers giving birth to babies, the birth of Christ, etc.etc.etc. All of these would have happened anyway, sooner or later. Accidently or by pure chance. That was part of the creation. A natural process, so to speak.

But the printing press changed everything. It made us seek more and more advance forms of communicating with each other.

Human being were and still remain hungry for information. Printing press allowed us to pass out information in written words. We are still doing this and finding more advanced methods to do it with. Would we have had books, newspapers, magazines, telegraphs, fax machines, computers, and yes, even the Internet, if not for this quest? Think about how boring and backward our lives would be today without it.

Some may argue that "art" did the same thing. My vote still goes to the Printing Press, because what evolved after the Printing Press is far more systematic and practical than any artform that I know. If anything, communication in itself became an artform because of the Printing Press.

For you, it's your awareness of your own existence and your ability to influence your own life.. It's called your personal power.. this is the essential thing that separates you from all other living things. You can make your life into much more than it is right now,, and that awareness is the most important thing in your life, so it's the most important thing that has ever happened. To You.

Some three years ago I nearly lost my cash I received from the Uni finance section, it's about THB12,000 (US$315, approx.) I got my payment from my part-time teaching of an MEd class, I remembered vaguely then that I put the white envelope (with the cash inside) in front of the rack of my bike, then I went up to the second floor of the Faculty of Education Building some 300 metres away with some documents and the envelope with me.
When I returned home that evening I recalled receiving the cash but I couldn't find it anywhere. I was very sad and thought for ways to search to find it somewhere along the routes I had passed via my bike that day.

I usually had some sheets of printed paper in the bike rack, so my wife urged me to search again carefully but in vain, I prayed for a miracle to help me since I needed that cash to pay my tuition fees for a doctoral degree.

The following morning (or another day I'm not sure), I rode the bike from my house to work, it's normally parked outside in front of the door downstairs. I didn't hope to find the cash again but when I reached the Education Building ready to go upstairs to my office, all of a sudden I saw the white envelope I had been searching in the rack (it's in front of the handles). I simply could NOT believe my eyes, I just said to myself, "Really? Is this really the cash I've been searching? What a miracle!" Then I knew it was a miracle indeed because when I opened the envelope, all of the cash's still there. Many thanks to the miracle from my heart. The cash for someone it's not a large sum of money, but it's crucial to me and I thought all the time that it's from my honest teaching career so I should deserve it.

Our own individual births. It's the most important thing that ever happened to each and every one of us.

I'd say when God created the heavens and the earth, but that is argumentative.

So I will say the invention of the transistor. No other object in human history has changed the lives of so many people.
