what do u think of the ireland government?

Considering where we came from, people who lived during the War of Independance would consider our current status as a near miracle.

The thing is, the Government claim responsibility for the Celtic Tiger...but do any of you feel any richer? Apparently we all have more money, which means of course that we get charged more. If Britain joined the Euro things would become more stable, but forget the Euro.

We have more money (apparently) so the price goes up on everything essentially cancelling out any gains in wealth the average person has. Sure there are less people living under the poverty line but there are a lot more struggling to stay above it.

Fianna Fail have done an ok job in some areas but they have failed in many others (health for example). Who else is there though? Labour? Fine Geal? Sinn Fein (expect an invasion of the North with our 2 tanks and 3 active soldiers if they come into power lol) ??

At the moment, there is no viable alternative...in fact the only improvement I could see would involve a coalition between Fine Geal and Fianna Fail, but that will never happen...one good thing about the Government though...no more Mary Harney.

EDIT: Forget the Black and Tans, if take account of everything the British Empire did, you could say they were as bad as the Nazi's...actually no, bad example, the Nazi's tried to wipe out other races, the British enslaved them. If you want to take Ireland on its own though...let's see, robbing us of our land, our culture, taking away our human and religious rights, almost destroying our language, raping our women, exporting our food while we starved to death...the list goes on. The British didn't leave because we were a crap country, they left because ultimately they couldn't beat us. As soon as the first execution after the Easter Rising took place, public opinion, even in Britain turned against the British Government completely and once the war started, Britain had no answer...it was Britain who called for a truce not the Irish.

However, I'm not talking about Britain today. Tony Blair, despite his failure in Iraq, should be commended by the Irish people for his efforts over Northern Ireland. You can't blame him for the current stalemate (that blame falls on the DUP) and the fact is, Anglo-Irish relations have improved dramatically. Most Irish people have nothing against the British people of today, we just wish that you would look at your own history and aknowledge the terrible things done in the name of British rule, not just in Ireland, but all over the old Empire in the last 800 years.

Corrupt, patronising criminals. Same as just about every government in the world. However, please stop blaming Britain for the poor state of Irish politics. it YOUR fault and no one elses. We have our own problems.
Same story with every nation thats wants to be FREE. Free from what. Free to choose your own corrupt gov. to replace the incumbent corrupt gov. Then have the freedom to blame everyone else. If Ireland is in a mess its Irelands fault. Oh! yes,,, we were not thrown out as the bigotted idiot above states. (The Irish are very good at bigottry, its one of the things they are best at) We just got sick of your crap country, along with several million others, and left.
