There's really no precise answer to your question, because the Cold War was not a "declared" war, with no "named" battles, and no formal surrender. It was just a period of undeclared conflict between the United States (and its allies) and the Soviet Union (and its allies). Estimates of when the war started and ended are a matter of where the historian wants to put his own particular spin on it.
Some people would say it was from the end of World War II in Europe (May 2, 1945), to the fall of the Berlin Wall (November 9, 1989).
Others would be a bit looser on the dates, saying it lasted from about 1947 to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Anyway, you get the idea.

The cold war started after World war 2. However many say it officially started in 1947. It started to end in 1989 when the Berlin wall was torn down in Germany. The official end to the Cold War was in 1991 when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) collapsed due to an economic collapse trying to keep up with the United states in an arms race.
so to answer your question 1947 - Dcember 31st 1991
