The local community college usually has automotive classes available, you can also go to the local library and check out the automotive section, or if you are looking for a job, get a entry level position at a local shop and learn as you work or start as an apprentice technician.

Nashville Auto Diesel College is the best school, in my opinion. I graduated from there in 1988. I have had a good career as a diesel engine/medium and heavy truck technician.
You can also get High Performance training, auto body repair training, and get an associates degree, as well as take ase certification tests. They have a 99% job placement rate upon graduation. I was an instructor there from 2000 to 2002. They have excellent instructors. Like anything, you will get out of it what you put into it. Good luck.

Google "automotive trade schools" or "motorcycle trade schools". Be warned, the electronics is hot and heavy.
Good luck and I expect a free inspection when you are certified. My professional advice should be worth as much as yours shouldn't it???
BTW, there a number of schools, the cheap ones are just that, cheap.
