My son still takes a bottle. He did not sleep through the night until he was 1 year old. But he still wants that bottle to go to sleep, at night and nap time. Thats pretty much it. I'm finally sleeping is it horriable to stil give it to him.

The problem with a baby bottle at 16 months is that he's probably got teeth by now. If so, the nipples on the bottle can actually PROMOTE tooth decay and prevent his adult teeth from ever comming in.
I transitioned to a sippy cup and only put water in it. She's 3 now and doesn't get it anymore, but it helped her go to sleep. Make sure you keep his teeth cleaned before he goes to bed. You don't want anything to destroy those precious pearly whites.

Not at all. He's still a baby. I wouldn't have any worries about his having a bottle at night or naps until he's around 2 1/2, if he hasn't given up by then you might try just putting water in it.Offer him a sippy cup of milk and a snack just before bedtime. I never took the bottle from my kids. eventually they'd throw it in the trash or out the car window while driving and I would just say "it's gone bye bye" then go home and hide all the rest of the bottles.

mine does the same thing..but i do NOT let her fall asleep with the bottle in her mouth. she has one just to fall asleep (say on me or in on the couch)..but then again shes been sleeping through the night since 2 weeks old.
she WILL not give up her bottle. shes 18 months. she only has a bottle 2-3 times day the rest are sippy cups..
if we dont give her a bottle she throws hissy fits..and with the sippy cups she turns them upside down and bangs them on the furniture and Tv to get the liquid out..

My opinion is that is fine, I have a 13 month old and he does the same thing . Sometimes he rejects his sip cup any time he's going to sleep and wants a bottle. To me I think you can be more firm in the day time and flexiable at night. He will grow out of it.

I don't know how old is too old for still drink on a bottle, but I will tell you what my mother in law used to tell me: "give him milk in a sippi cup, a cup, a glass or a bottle as long as he drinks it," my three kids stopped drinking from a bottle at 5 years old, of course they only had it at home, if we went out the bottle would stay.

He could get babybottle mouth which is an infection from putting kids to bed with heir bottles. Yes, too old. Have you tried having a rocking time before bed some additional security for him. He should be able to drink from a regular cup by now.

Yes, he is getting too old for a bottle. Especially don't let him fall asleep with the bottle in his mouth with milk in it. This isn't meant to scare you, but a woman I work with let her son do that until he was about 2 1/2, until once when he was sleeping she noticed his top teeth had turned black from behind. They literally rotted and he had to have his top 4 front teeth pulled.

It its only at night and you take it away as soon as he's asleep I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure it is water though so you aren't causing cavaties on those new teeth.
Lots of kids have a paci all day at that age and they turn out okay so I wouldn't really worry too much about damage to his mouth or teeth from the nipple. Good Luck

You should try giving him a sippy cup. A bottle is way to old and he's getting too old for them. You should teach him to adapt to sippie cup instead.
