The world is facing a serious overpopulation problem, another person-especially in a developed country- on the planet means more pollution, more resources used, and possibly more kids. Lots of children are neglected and starving, we're not taking care of the kids that are already here.
Your kid is statistically more likely to be a criminal or a serial killer than a great scientist.
Kids will soak up almost all yout time and resources and the patience of the people you love.
But everyone's doing it. I want to hear a GOOD, logical reason to have children.

People have kids for free slave labor duh? Who else is gonna do the dishes, and clean up the house? Certainly not me, that's why I'm planning on having at least 15 kids, maybe they all can be on the same football team and make me millions.

Yes, some people should not have children. But my two children are the best thing that ever happened to me. I would never give them up. If you don't like children and you think of them as an over population problem than you shouldn't have one and if you have to ask why should I have one you shouldn't be having one. If you are really concerned about people not taking care of there children maybe you should vollenteer at planned parenthood or some other organization that can help young people that shouldn't be having kids not have kids.

what does logic have to do with love? my children have enriched my life in ways I couldn't even have imagined. they are so amazing and I can't imagine my life without them. Trying to explain the "need" to have a child to someone that doesn't want them is really hard. Most of it can't really be put into words. For me it was just something that I always wanted, and I'll never regret having kids.
You're right, there are lots of neglected and starving kids, and kids that are very mistreated, and there are many kids out there that have parents that should have never had kids cuz they aren't good people. But that doesn't mean that all the good people in the world shouldn't have children.

Adopt a child, either domestically or internationally. Provide a good home and do something that will impact the world by choosing to live outside of your selfish ways and give your attention to a child. Many mothers choose adoption for their children and parents are needed for these children every day.

I completely agree with Mandi..the reason why someone wants kids is more a reason of the heart, than of the mind. And, not everything in the world is explained by logic- is it? I dnt've kids till now but the very reason why i go thru this section of yahoo!answers is the fact that i want to have kids..its a pleasure out of the numerous ones life offers. Imagine if ur parents didn't want to have kids (no offence)..where'd u've been? Innocence and purity is there on earth by virtue of kids..let it prevail..

There is no GOOD, logical reason for someone like you to have children. Children should only be brought into the world by people who want them and can love and take care of them. So, if you have to ask, you don't deserve them!

Why have kids? To not end up being bitter and lonely like you. I am TTC, I want to have kids not only because they are a gift from god but the whole experience is a beautiful thing, from when they're born to when they give you that first smile, when they say their first word and when they take their first step. You raise your kids to be what you want them to be. Plus if you know how to raise your kids they will end up taking good care of you when you get old, example; me. I am now 23 years old, independent, work full time take night classes and now that my parents need someone to take care of them I'm more then happy to do so, why because that's just the way they raised me and that's how I want my kids to be, how my parents taught me to be, a good person.

basically my only reason to have 5 kids is that my wife wanted them! but i would think having someone take care of you in your old age or visit you in your old age is the reason other than that having grandkids!
