sorry, only powdered calcium carbonate that I know of is if you crush Tums antacid tablets- most of those are made from calcium carbonate. I know people have used sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to whiten laundry and soften water. Sometimes lye is used as a laundry whitener- but it is harsh. and... laundry bluing can be used for whitening laundry- don't ask me why it is called bluing when it whitens..I would have to track down that answer too and right now I have my own laundry to get to *LOL*

Powdered calcium carbonate is a long phrase used to disguise an unappetizing "dietary supplement" . It is basically clam and oyster shells ground up in a machine until pulverized and then sold as calcium supllements for people with osteoprosis or people who don't otherwise get enough calcium in their diets.

If you want it as a cleaner, I'd bet there are cheaper and just as effective choices out there. If you must have it, ask at a local vitamin shop if they can order it in powdewr form. Otherwise, ask a biology or chemistry teacher if they can order it from a science catalog.

Or, ask at one of those organic stores that carries the non toxic cleaners and stuff made out of blossoms and pesticide free chickens and such.

Calcium raises pH in acidic soils. One of the best sources is from finely ground oyster shells, which are a by-product of the seafood industry. Oyster shells contain up to 36% calcium plus a natural balance of other nutrients and micronutrients.

You can also obtain calcium from egg shells, but this is only for small gardens or hearty appetites.
