Close all of your blinds or curtains.Turn off all the outside lights, and the ones closer to the front of your house. If you have windows on your front door or around it you can hang some sheets or light blankets up to help shade any light from coming through and keep people from seeing you moving around if you are worried about it, plus if gives people the hint that you do not want to be bothered.
I would say put a sign with bold letters either on your door or near the walkway (so people are not attracted to it and come close to your door to read it) saying you do not want to be disturbed because you have an infant sleeping. And put a dark piece of paper or something over your doorbell so that people do not ring it.
I do not think you are "Halloween Grinch" for doing this, it is a totally logical reason. It is not so much that you don't want to give out candy, it is just that your baby's rest is your priority. If you do all that stuff plus the signs simply stating the reasoning, I have a feeling you will not be bothered.
(People usually avoid the dark houses anyway, so you should be golden with everything said here)

I think that the two things you are doing are the main ones anyone can do..trickor-treaters are told to only go to houses that have an outside light on, and in the most recent years they are also asked to have a sign hung on their front door..so the other answer about putting up a polite sign might just attract the little ones to come up to your door. Another idea might be to close your front blinds that are closest to your street...then maybe the'll just think you are not home...I hope this helps...and have a happy halloween.

Be truthful. Don't say "You're not at home" when you are home. That'd be lying. Do you want to lie to a bunch of kids? Just be truthful by putting out the lights if you don't want to hand out candy. In case someone's bold enough to knock, then tell them flat out that you have put your baby to bed and would rather not have trick-or-treaters banging on your door which could possibly wake the kid up. The trick-or-treater will be bummed, but he/she would move on b/c there are many more houses and so little time.

Don't keep a candy dish outside. I think a dark front porch light is a dead give-away to the trick-or-treaters, though. Don't leave any lights on by your front door.

Turn on lots of lights inside - not on the porch, and play Christian music as loud as possible.
Or, make your porch so scary that trick or treaters don't dare to approach! I remember a house like that when I was a kid.

Awww, just hand out some candy! If you really don't wanna be disturbed (I don't know why....Halloween can be fun for adults, too!), you COULD consider putting out a bowl full of candy. But you do run the risk of kids grabbing it all and running. If you just want them to skip your house, make sure you have NO decorations up. If you have one, park your car in a garage, so it looks like no one's home. You could put up a sign or something, saying that you aren't home, or you could ask neighbors to tell the children not to go to your house.

All you have to do is turn off all your outside and inside lights...a Halloween rule is that you do not go to a dark house. If you do not have your porch lights on, then they will not come.

leave a note on your door saying that you will not be giving candy. all though I'd be ready for a trashed front yard. as the saying goes "Trick or treat" Even though the younger trick-or-treaters are chaperoned, there are still some older ones who may be carrying a trick with them.

You are doing the right thing. If I had a kid going trick or treating
I would not approach a dark house. Can't speak for all those kids that go without their parents -that 's because their parents are out to lunch in their brain.

Put a bowl of some cheap candy outside your house perferably at the end of the walkway. Also, make sure to put the cars in the garage.
