How come you don't see rugby players writhing in agony everytime they are tackled. Are soccer players really just a bunch of whimps. Soccer players who play act like this on the pitch should be ridiculed for not setting a good example and role model for kids. Come on soccer players be MEN not whimps!

Even RADA would be proud to turn out actors who have the ability to star in the Circus. the way that the cheats can manipulate their bodies and enable them to roll over six or so times would put a contortionist to shame. Prima
Donnas and wannabees the lot of them. If Dave Basset said they should get powder blue cards he was wrong.....they should be issued with powder puffs to cover their embarrassed red faces when they are caught cheating.

Thank you Lord that I am not alone - I could not agree with you more & ask this question constantly ..... most of the *****, wimpy players were are talking about are better far better actors than any of the idiots in Hollywood, they should create a new Oscar category, it is so pathetic & to add insult to injury they get paid a fortune .... ughhh it makes me sooo angry & you are so right, what a rubbish example to set to the kids .... !!!

Personally I think the solution is to introduce instant video replay to the officials on the pitch - technology is definitely good enough these days & other sports use it but that is an answer to a different question ...

Futbol is played to win, so players try to stretch any foul as far as they can (the ultimate success is a free kick).

The substitution rules in futbol are very tight, unlike say, Hockey. Players stretch the time out after a foul - even with a real injury, they normally will stay in the game - so they can recover from the foul as much as possible. They may need time to cool off and not give the other team a PK after ill-advised retaliation.

I suppose that at the top professional levels, play-acting after a foul may be enhanced by coaching.

You will note that after the official makes his ruling and play goes on, the players are not wimps

The whole point is they're play-acting to gain an advantage. Nothing to do with being a wimp, they're trying to get the ref to award the decision (penalty, free kick etc) their way. Smart, if cynical, play.

Sad fact, but until FIFA gets really hardcore about it, we're going to continue to see it. They need to take a hard line: immediate yellow card for play acting. The first couple of players to get sent off would send the correct message.

There's a classic picture from the early sixties.. a young Billy Bremner (Leeds utd) has just comitted a foul tackle on Dave McKay (Spurs).
McKay has grabbed Bremner by the scruff of his neck and forcibly reminded him of the rules of fair play and respect for senior players. McKay did not roll around on the turf as if mortally wounded..neither did Bremner. Both just got on with the game and shook hands after the match. That was the way it was then...

Call it by the correct name.. CHEATING Thats what football has become. I am a MUFC fan but I hate to see Ronaldo do it. So do many other fans. Their justification for it is, "The opposition will do it, so will we" Its a cancer in the game. Whos faoult is it... The referee's have a lot to answer for here. They allowed it get out of hand years ago and now can't back pedal fast enough. MORE sendings off not less is the only answer. Punish the offenders... including Ronaldo. We football fans hate it.

I agree, Dave Basset said a number of years ago, that players who play act should get a powder blue card, that's all they deserve.
To see how bad they are you've only got to watch soccer am and the platoon extras, it's a disgrace.

Of course they do and the best ones in the world are in Italy and Portugal, seriously though I love my footie and it drives me crazy when certain players constantly drop at the slightest contact in order to gain a free kick or penalty or even worse to get one of their fellow professionals booked or sent off.
A lot of the time injuries are genuine as football is a contact sport played at a fast pace, so injuries will occur we don't need the cheats to make it worse and spoil our enjoyment. The FA's around the world need to increase penalties for these offences to maybe deter them, as you say it is not a good role model for our kids millions of who watch the game around the world.

They do that to gain advantage by a free kick... Its a mind game, not "acting"... Rugby is a full contact sport.. Soccer isnt... You cant compare the two.. In Rugby you prepare yourself to be hit, in soccer you dont expect it.. If you want to call anyone wussies, call American Football players that... Because they wear full body pads, basically..

Easy, I played in the playground and out on the road as a kid, I don't remember any nancy boys diving. The pitches should be concrete with wire grass - that would keep the wimps on their feet. At least we'd see proper injuries.
