If you are applying it to the lower inside rim only, it can look really unbalanced, like a droopy eye. You can try using a lighter shade at the top, taking time to apply it between the the upper lash hairs and not the skin just above where your lashes grow, giving the look of thicker lashes.
Sometimes liner doesn't meet the lashes, and it shows up as a "gap" between the liner and the lashes. You can also use a brush or a pointed Q-Tip with shadow on it to define the lashes. Just moisten the brush/Q-Tip with water, dip into the color and give it a try. A very defined line can appear harsh unless it is smudged or applied with the technique mentioned above.
Good luck!

You should try to put the eyeliner near the top of your lashes in a thin fine line don't put any on the bottom it also makes me look funny looking too because my eyes are not that big so if you put the line too thick it makes your eyes look even smaller. I use liquid eyeliner i don't like to use pencil it just doesn't help your eyes stand out.

I have the same problem. I don't like the actual LINE that eyeliner leaves--it looks so phony to me.
So what I started doing a couple of years ago, was when I put on my mascara, I touch the brush lightly to my skin right where the roots of my lashes grow out of my eyelids (like a light smudge). And as I mascara my lashes farther along I make intermittent little smudges with the liner at the lash line. It ends up making me look like I've got twice as much lashes as what I actually have. And there is no LINE that looks phony.

If you don't look good in it, don't wear it! Confidence is really important for pulling looks off, and if you don't feel like you look good in it, people will be able to tell. If you want to make your eyes the focus, use some mascara! Also, if you use a tiny brush and put damp eyeshadow on it you can use that for eyeliner and it will look more natural.

apply the liner to the top eyelid
because when u have small Asian looking eyes the eyeliner on the bottom makes u look like a raccoon LOL.. its the truth so try the upper lid and make it a thin line not a large football line and too much eyeliner makes u look sleazy and gross and don't do thick line its disgusting seeing young girls make up looking oily and nasty like Ashely Simpson or Lindsey lohan it looks like hooker makeup wear....

It depends how your putting it on and what type of eye-liner you're using. For instance I dont look good in liquid eye-liner myself, so I usually go for the pencil and I put it on the inner eyelid of my eyes (on both top & bottom). That works better for me. You can tell that the eyeliner is there but it's somewait discrete and it makes my dark green eye's really pop out!

Use dark eyeshadow to draw your eyeliner and a applicator with a very thin tip, and try to apply as close to the eyelashes as possible.
I reccomend you using a dark brown color, it goes with everything and makes your eye look softer than with contrasting black

Choose a different color to enhance your eyes... and buy a smudger. A subtle delicate smoky smudgy line can make the eyes stand out without looking like they are circled in pencil.

-don't use liquid.
-don't use on top of the eye.
-you know if you pull your lower eyelid down, the area that's right above your eyelashes (you might have to get really close in the mirror), put your eye liner there. It might tickle at first, but, I find it comes out more normal looking if you put it there.
-combine with mascara.
