I have a question in Earth Science that I'm really stuck on ..
In what way are the minerals Quartz and Galena similar?
Please help!

The only thing that I found in my book was that both are found in metamorphic rocks and they both are made of 2 elements. Also everything the person above me said in incorrect. Galena does not contain silicon, but quartz does. Quartz has a hardness of 7 while galena has a hardness of 2 and a half.

One commonality is that they both can be formed from hydrothermal solutions (water + heat). Another is that they are both crystalline. Their crystal systems differ, however (quartz is hexagonal and galena is isometric.

Check if they are both igneous or metamorphic. THINK they are both silicon based. Also they are very close on the Roh's Hardness scale. In appearance they are nothing alike... Good question - and good luck!
