Maybe a 2. But I live on a military base where I have to deal with military police. Most of them are at least 10 years younger than I am and they are on major power trips. They are always getting into trouble but suffering no consequences. Then they play favorites. Last year I called the cops at 2 am because some idiot was running his Harley in a nearby parking lot. He has been doing it for a few hours. He wasn't riding it. He was just letting it run and would rev it now and then. He had a bunch of friends with him and they were being loud. We live in a house that is located between to high rise apartments. The parking lot that serves the apartments is right off our backyard. The way the buildings are situated creates an echo effect. So, everything that goes on in that parking lot is amplified. Anyway, the cops show up and they're out there chatting away with this guy. I could hear the entire conversation. It turns out they are buddies. They laugh because I called to complain. They talk for awhile then the cop leaves. The harley is still going. So, I call back. I calmly explain to the cop that the problem is still happening and I would like it resolved. He tells me he can't do anything about it. He says the guy is moving and he has to get rid of his gasoline so the movers can pack up the motorcycle in the morning. WTF?! Big deal. Then the idiot should have thought about that instead of waiting until the middle of the night, the night before the move to take care of the issue. In the military you usually have AT LEAST a months notice before you pack out. We have a noise ordinance on base and there are quiet hours. I explain this to the cop who gets snippy with me because he already knows this. So, then I tell him to do something. He says he can't. ???? I ask him, "So, if I turn my stereo on full blast is someone going to come over here and stop me?" He says, "Yes ma'am". So, I lose my cool and start shouting at him about it. It makes zero sense. But because this guy is friendly with the cops they're letting him get away with breaking the noise ordinance. He then says that the noise ordinance only applies to things over a certain decible. Guess what? I looked it up. A harley is a higher decible than a lawn mower. So, a few nights later I went out late at night to mow the lawn. The cops came by and said I had to stop. I told them I didn't because the lawn mower was not above a certain decible and they said it didn't matter!!!! I explained the situation from the recent harley incident and they didn't care. So, yeah... I hate the ******* cops.

That is just one incident. Our military police have also been involved in a drug scandal, and a few of them beat the **** out of a guy at a night club and they suffered zero consequences. Oh wait...they got a talking to. Pfft! I don't trust any of them.

You know thats a really tricky question because I absolutely have respect for the police but I dont trust them and I try to live my everyday life so that I wont ever need one. And thats unfortunate because if I were to ever REALLY need one, I fear that I would hesitate in calling them. If someone broke into my house and tried to harm me, I honestly believe I would have a faster response and more concern from my friends. I would just call some of my homeboys to come over and kick some major booty. I live in Baltimore city and the police would probably arrive right after we had everyone tied up and waiting on the front porch....that really is how much help they are here. What a shame, we should be able to trust our law enforcerment agency...oh well...my daddy owns a bat...

As I've never had a run-in with them, I still have the idealized perception of the police--friendly, fair, out to protect the little guy. So I give them a 10. I'll get back to you after I've received my first traffic ticket!

Well, if you are talking about the band POLICE, a rockin 10.

If you are talking about policemen & women, a rockin 10. Now that I'm on the right side of the law...
