This is assuming the anti-theft system is aftermarket... look for a small button somewhere near the steering column, could be on the kickpanel, near the instrument cluster or even on the column its self. Some systems even use the blinking button that you see to tell you the alarm is activated. Once you locate this 'valet button' take your key and turn your ignition lock cylinder to the 'on' position, not 'start' just on, press the little button and then turn your key to start, your car should start. THIS IS ONLY IF IT IS AN AFTERMARKET ALARM SYSTEM. Some sytems are different, look around the car snd see if you see any stickers on the windows regarding your anti-theft system. Your car should not have a transponder (chip) key. A factory alarm system will deactivate when you unlock the drivers door with a key.

Huh? How did you buy a car that you can't drive? Are you talking about an immobilizer that you lost the key/fob for? The 97 didn't come with factory standard immobilizer, only an alarm, so if yours has one, it was put in after. You would have to contact the manufacturer or installer of that model for help.
