I see most of you avoided the question by putting the blame on someone else.. typical republican response.. I do agree there was enough blame to go around, but the president takes ultimate resposibilty in a situation like that....good responses some of you toward the end though.

Well Bush didn't handle it to well now did he.....
I would say a Dem....

Hurricane Katrina

Count 1.Knowing failure of the Bush administration to adequately maintain and upgrade the levees directly contributed to the foreseeable loss of life and suffering of many people when Hurricane Katrina struck.

Count 2: Despite foreknowledge of Hurricane Katrina striking land as a greater than category 3 storm and the devastation that this would cause, the Bush administration failed to implement an emergency evacuation plan for people who were in the path of the storm and unable to evacuate the area on their own.

Count 3: The Bush administration neither launched an immediate rescue operation nor provided the emergency shelter, food and water needed to save peoples’ lives and prevent needless suffering.

Count 4: Federal authorities blocked the provision of emergency services, including rescue and provision of food and water on the part other levels of government and private sources despite the obvious need for this kind of relief.

Count 5: Federal authorities enforced repressive conditions and eventually carried out an evacuation that separated families, including separating small children from their parents, and left many people not knowing where their loved ones were located and even if they had survived the storms.

Sorry But I had to laugh at Great _Ames answer. Bush has taken money from all over, not just from Hurricane victims...Look in Iraq,we had over 20 BILLION missing that went to some Private school for Iraqi Woman Barbara Bush supposidly funded, but guess what....Noone knows a thing about where that money went. Republicans sure the hell do though.

Neither. If I was stuck on a roof in New Orleans (I'm assuming you mean after Katrina, but your question doesn't say),

I would trust anybody that happened by with some food and/or water and possibly a helicopter. Shoot, I'd trust Al Gore. Clinton is still pushing it. J/K.

Your question is illogical in that applying it politically means some people are desperate enough to take any kind of help that comes along. That is not politics, that is slavery.

Katrina showed the failures of democrats in office. New Orleans was 100% democrat controlled for over 40 years. Fact, the Bush administration spent over $12 Billion on N.O. infastructure than any other President..to this day they are still looking for that $12 Billion because the democrats never put it to use as it was designed for. Mayor Nagen ran for his first term ith a promise to rebuild the levees, he never took a look at them until they broke from neglect. And for people being to poor to escape...no such person lives in America with that description. Everyone had a place and a time to go, only the idiots remained.
As for the question, politics means nothing in a disaster, I wouldn't have waited to be told to leave. Also, Bush is NOT 1% at fault for Katrina. Governor Blanco is 100% at fault for Katrina...why, she is the Governor in charge of that state, according to the Law, Bush cannot do anything without the Governor's approval...states rights for anyone who cared to learn US history.

My knee jerk response was to say that hindsight is 20/20. This is one thing I don't blame on Repubs/Dems. In times of crisis parties are forgotten and we pull together (witness 9/11). I do blame the President for not ensuring that all the wheels were turning as they should be, he is accountable for that in my opinion.

I have to admit I read through others' answers before I answered. I was really struck by the amount of people who said "well I would have left like I was told to." The reason that most of those people were stranded was because they did not have the money to just up and leave. Many of them had no where to go and no money to go there with. Those who have credit cards and money in the bank don't think about the fact that there are millions of Americans who don't have either of those things. Should they be punished for having bad/no credit - with their lives? Sorry to get off on a rant, that just really made me kind of angry :(.

Your question brings out an interesting point. Look at aerial photos of places hit by hurricanes. The roofs are generally blown away. New Orleans wasn't hit by a hurricane. It got flooded due to politicians pocketing money that was supposed to go to levees and dikes.

You might rephrase your question... "If you were stuck on a roof in New Orleans, were you put there by a republican? or a democrat?"

Very easy. If I was stuck on a roof in New Orleans, I will yell out loud "Save me now and I'll pledge my life and support to the state of Israel". Then the Jews, Republicans and Democrats will rush to save me.

I would have had the sense to leave, but in the off chance: a Republican. It was a Democrat mayor and governor that were busy answering e-mails from Oprah instead of authorizing federal intervention.

Edit: Actually it is ultimately the Governor's responsibility. The Governor MUST request Federal aid, by law. The President cannot just send troops around wherever he wants.

Neither I would not be in city - I follow all evacuation orders. But if I did not make it out I would wait for rescue for a while & then head out on my own before things got desperate. I believe we must all be responsible for our own families not wait & whine that others did not endanger their lives for us. I was taught that by a Republican - my Mom.

If you trusted a Republican you would still be on that roof! Those idiots couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag--forget them when it's something big like Katrina. I cannot believe that people in this country were abandoned like that. I am a Democrat and yes I can do better and yes I would help you in a time of need.

I would trust a Republian because Republicans have a passion for giving a helping hand to people who are less fortunate.
