I have a 10 gallon aquarium fully cycled (0 ammonia and 0 nitrite with 15% water changes weekly) I have 2 males and 3 females and up til today they were great. Now one of my females (the one I have had for a week and a half has started being afraid of my hand, and swimmin really quickly up and down the aquarium and then hiding in the plants. I have only had fish a short while and don't know if this is normal. Her tail is also swishing very fast and when she rests she kind of lays against the plant on her side...What is going on with my guppy?

The nitrates are ok, the temp is at about 76 at night and 78 during the day (when light is on) the ph is between 7.5 and 8 (my test kit doesn't break down more than this) The GH is at 9.5, and there is 1 tbs of salt/5 gallons (total of 5 tbs of salt as instructed by petstore)

For awhile she was like riding the bubbles from the air stone up and down up and down and i was worried it was hurting her so i turned it off, should i just keep it on?

1. have you tested the nitrates in addition to the nitrites and ammonia?
2. is the water temperature stable?
3. is the pH stable?
4. Guppies like salt in their water, is there 1 tbsp of salt per 3 gallons of water?
If the answer to all of those questions is yes, then just wait and see if she returns to normal or develops any additonal problems.

Doubt the airstone is hurting her, assuming she is able to get away from it on her own. Sounds like your aquarium conditions are fine, so she is probably okay. The only other thing I can think of is that the ratio of male to female is pretty close, so she may just be exhausted from the males chasing her. But as long as they are leaving her alone now, I wouldn't worry about it.

she's probably getting ready to lay eggs. i heard that guppies breed like crazy, and if you have only 2 males together and no females, the males will kill each other.
