We certainly want to turn over security to Iraqi forces, and a lot has been made about the number of military & police we've trained. However, it now seems that sectarian militias and even death squads exist within these groups. But still, other than us, they're the only "security" available.

So do you think the military and police we're training are helping solve the violence, or are they making it worse?

There are good arguments for both sides.

Its a fricking mess ain't it Steve ..for better or worse Saddam held the hate groups at bay..seems the only thing they have ever known is the cruel hand of a dictator and now all this pent up frustration has been unleashed..and Americans caught in the middle what the hell was bush thinking we he disbanded the Iraqi army?
Was this their way of assuring a long term commitment of American forces to over see the installation of a puppet government that will work hand and hand with the Oil Barron's that started this whole LIE in Iraq?

We should let Iraqi come up with solutions to the problems with sectrain violence. We should provide technical support and training to build the basic blocks for a civil society. Yet, we cant babysit Iraq forever. We need to withdrawl from Iraq actually, and let the choas run its course. Its a civil war in Iraq, and Bush went into Iraq lying to the world about Saddam having WMDs. Iraq will be better off in 20 years later without Saddam, but right now its a mess there.
