I just recently asked this question, but I see that it needs some rephrasing. My girlfriend has been on birth control the past 3 years. She recently stopped after her last period. It has been about 6 weeks now, and she hasnt gotten her period yet. She called me tonight telling me this. Should I be worried that shes pregnant, or could it take this long to get her period?

The answer doesn't change. I stopped taking the pill, and I was pregnant before I had a period. Sometimes people don't get a period immediately because of hormones, but most do. You're probably pregnant.

Going off the pill CAN cause your period to come late or early. However, 6 weeks is a bit much. I have been on the pill for 3 years as well, and when I last went off (between my prescription ending and getting a refill), I was about a week late. 2 weeks late MAY be something to worry about. If it doesn't come in a few days, she should take a pregnancy test.
Just a friendly reminder: always use a condom, even when she is on the pill. No form of birth control is 100% effective, but using both the pill and a condom together helps greatly.

Most people return to a pretty normal menstral cycle when they stop taking the pill. Some don't. The best way to know if she is pregnant is to have her take a pregnancy test.

dont listen to those people! since shes been on BC for 3 years, her body is pretty dependant on them. so once she stops taking them, her body is probably thinking "where are they?" her body is waiting for the pills to come. and since there not getting any, there just waiting. and her cycle could have gotten all screwed up!!!

after being on the pill I have heard that it might take a while for her period to come back after being on it for so long.
