Ok, I'm going to give you 2 types of thesis statments, one about politics and religion, and one about politics being impacted by religion.
1)
The twentieth (or 21st) century has gone through a lot of changes where religion and politics are concerned.
There are arguments as to whether or not religion should be in allowed in schools, if the ten commandments should be displayed in public and State locations, and if politics should be discussed at work amongst co-workers.
Everyone has their own opionion as to each of these topics, However the most obvious answer is in the fact that religion has been kept from being allowed in schools, the ten commandments have only been allowed to be posted in State court houses and everyone generally agrees that politics should not be discussed at work.

2)
Today you see ad campaigns on television in regards to politics. You do not see the candidates saying they will work to fix our budget defficit, you do not see them saying they will work to improve healthcare and you do not see them saying they will fight hard to improve education. Instead, the candidates are fighting over religion and the new laws that should be put in place because of what religion says. It is time we tell our senators, govenors and mayors to stop fighting about peoples private lives because of "their" religious stance and start fighting for the things that REALLY matter to most Americans which is better health care, better education, higher wages for struggling people in poverty and getting the United States out of Debt!

Basically, a thesis statement sums up what you are going to talk about in your paper, you are just making a STATEMENT of the major subject you will be writing about. ;)

basically sum your paper up in one short sentence. no nedd to include every detail. her e is an example.

In exploring some of the meaning of Retroactive I by Robert Rauschenberg, people will not rather learn about a rather controversial time span, but also the history behind one of the greatest American presidents ever elected into office.

The middle east is a good idea. Also WWII was influenced by religion (the holocaust in which Jewish people were persecuted).
