"Homo" could theoretically be short form for either, but is usually only used as short form for homosexual, not homo sapien.
HOMOSEXUAL does not mean you love humans. It means you love those of your own sex : homo('same') sexual
HOMO SAPIENS are other humans. So for it to mean you simply love other humans, you'd have to say you were a HOMOSAPIEN-SEXUAL.

Why would the term 'homosexual' mean you love humans? Are you trying to extrapolate the term from the word 'homosapien'? If so, that's a good try, but in this case, the prefix 'homo' doesn't refer to the human race, but means 'same' as in 'homogenous'. Ergo, homosexuality being sexuality of the same sex.

I am a homosexual, a lesbian. I like men, but I'm not sexually attracted to them. never have been. I've always only been attracted to women. I am, therefore, a "real" homosexual.
