hey I was wondering if it is possible to remove the single coil pickups from an american fender stratocaster and put on gibson humbuckers instead? Like is it physically possible?

it can be done, but you need someone who knows his stuff to rout the body so the pickups line up right(more or less) and it will have to be rewired. expect to spend sme bucks- you don't want a butch job on a good axe. mind you, this wont make it sound like a gibson. the guitars are too different for that

well if your strat. is the 3 singles kind, no i don't think so... unless you want to start carving away at the body, your better off selling the single coil strat. and get one with open cover hambuckers, then try.
i guess it would be possible, for someone who is experienced, but if i were you, I'd try selling and buying around before i cut into an American Fender.
i have an Epiphone archtop (humbuckers) and a strat knock-off, and just looking i can tell there will be cutting to do.
now if what you ment by "Humbucker" was an actual "mini-Humbucker" and not a regular sized one, i'm in the dark there and can't help you... if that's the case, i must say that i, myself have wondered the same thing.
I wonder why you want Gibson humbuckers, Fender makes a set of strat-single coil humbucking pick-ups now, check out a Fender dealing music store and ask to see a booklet on Fender products.

I personally would buy an older model Fender if I had the choice but if it is a new guitar a Gibson is the way to go. I have a 1969 Fender and it has some of the best sound I have ever heard. But out of newer guitars I find fender is lacking lately and Gibson is a known and respected guitar. But if all else fails go out and gt something you like to play. Right now I actually play a Yamaha acoustic guitar and it has beautiful sound.

You can get Humbuckers that fit a single coil scratchplate and body rout. Seymore Duncan do some.
