a couple of hints to find out how to graph a linear system.

1, the number that is not attached to a variable, is the y-intercept, the point at which a line crosses the y axis

2, if you have a slope (number with a variable) that is just a variable in your case, consider it as 1 over 1 or -1 over 1, etc

in your case, plot the y intercept at +1 and go down one and right one number in the scale on the grid

hope this helps

Solving a linear system basically means finding y when x = 0 and x when y = 0.

Graph the equation and find the points were it crosses x and y axis.
Those points are your x and y intercepts and the answers to your equation.

okay..deep breath...and begin

y= -x+1

so let's see what x would equal if we isolate it

y= -x +1
-x=y-1
x=-y+1

now we have something we can use....its called a system

y= -x+1 and x= -y+1

let's substitute the y in the second equation so....
x=-y+1
x= (-x+1) +1 now move the x...don't forget to change his sign
2x=1
x=1/2 now that we know x let's find y

x= -y+1
1/2= -y+1 move the 1, change his sign
1/2-1= -y
1/2-2/2= -y
-1/2= -y
y=1/2

now lets check and make sure we are right
x= -y+1
1/2= -1/2+1
1/2= -1/2 +2/2
1/2=1/2 yeppers, it checks out

so these two lines would cross at (1/2, 1/2)
