Very good question. People who post such questions are so miserable that the only way they can feel better about themselves is to put someone else and turnaround and say "I have a horrible life, but at least I am not like those people." I have never bothered to answer them because I don't want to sink to their level. If nobody would answer their questions, they would no longer get any satisfaction from doing so and eventually slither away.

I was just thinking the exact same thing when I read a homophobic question. Why doesn't everyone just ignore them? It'd be different if they were saying that kind of stuff on the street as we'd probably say someting back, but we're on a Q&A website so there's no need to respond to it all.

Because it's the right thing to do. The people who post those questions believe in "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". Insults are the appropriate christian response.
They deserve a lot worse than insults.

You do make good points but for me it happens so much, everyday, I hope Yahoo takes it seriously when they get notified and I hope they get terminated for the things they do. Unfortunately I feel like I'm about at my wits end with these kinds of people and I hope they never have children to pass on that hate.

Da ben dan,
Hello again!
People are impulsive. Meaning that they do not think about what they do, really. They know that responding to those who try to cause mischef are actually looking for attention, but the people who respond do not put much intellectual value in that summation.
So the endless tireless assault grows with every minute, the 'haters' are encouraged to continue.

To be honest, I can't help it... I have a bad temper and things like that just piss me off... but you're right, we should just ignore them... but I doubt they'll just go away, they'll only answer more of our questions with ignorance.

Reporting does work, though. Yahoo will delete the questions and suspend the user's membership.

I always turn it around and tell them their in the closet..I get more pleasure out of that lololol...I like to toy with them. I don't take what they say personal...for some I try and educate them. They won't learn if their not taught. I will keep walking my walk and talking my talk....

Dear old friend.Perhaps we are like Pavlov's dogs. Its a conditioned response.
Trouble is, my replies are seldom apt, just backhand swipes.
Time for my medication, Rose P.
