Ignore what the nurse said. Feed her when she's hungry. If she's afraid of a little spit up, she shouldn't have gotten into the field that she's in.

Feeding a baby before a doctors visit isn't going to skew the weight/examination enough to make a difference. If the baby is hungry feed it, even if you have to make the nurses wait on you to finish feeding your child. I know I was nursing my son, after the doc had examined him and Iwas waiting for the nurse to come in to give him his shots, she just said she'd come back in a few minutes when I was finished. Advice about doctors, don't go to a doctor that rushes you through an appointment. A doctor (no matter how far behind they are should be there to listen to everything you have to say and not leave until you are finished with the appointment. I'd talk to your doctor about the nurse, ask what her reasonings are and if he agrees, then I'd either find a new doctor or tell him that won't be happening.

Yes your right to feed the baby whenever it's hungry or restless but i have never heard of this either. i have been told that when your baby needs to be fully checked and weighed it is best not to feed baby before appointment.
i have two children and when ever i have had an appointment i used to feed him as well, but when i was called in they told me not to do that as it affects the weight of the child. due to the reason that on the baby's last visit it's weight for example was 3.5kg, and being fed now and weighed is 3.7kg.
so they are basically trying to calculate how much weight the baby has actually put on since it's last visit.
i have found that this was the case with my second child to. i have a relative who is a nurse and i asked her this question. she said that its best to feed 2 hours prior to the appointment as most of the food will be digested where as feeding while waiting in the doctors room the baby might also fall asleep and therefore harder to weight and examine the child.
there are also books that you can read up on about this info or ask the doctor to give you some info.
hope this helps.

you can't rearrange a baby's eating schedule around a doctors visit YES YOU should always feed your baby when she is hungry. I have fed my kids at the clinic in the room waiting on a doctor. I think you should tell your doctor what she said i bet the doctor dose not WANT a nurse telling moms to hold off feeding a hour before visits. I've been at the doctors 3 hours before you should not be told for the nurses convience not to let your child eat.

Sounds like the nurse was irritated that your baby spit up, but hey-that's what babies do. And actually I've had nurses tell me to feed our daughter before we come in if it's close to a feeding (she's 15 months) to avoid her being fussy. If you have a young baby, he/she is probably already on somewhat of a schedule, so if she/he's hungry-feed 'em! :-)

I have never heard that before. What I would do is ask the doctor if this is correct and what is his/her reasoning for this. If you are not comfortable with the response then switch doctors.
No child should be kept hungry because of a doctor's appointment. Sometimes you have to wait 1 hour in the waiting room just to see them anyway.

Yeah I have never heard that and she seems like a b**** . You should feed the baby when he/she is hungry forget that crap I always feed my daughter before or even while i was at the doctors office and if they told me that i would have walked out and found another doctor or talked to someone higher than her. Well good luck!

I've never heard of that before. I breastfed my babies while waiting to weigh them in the waiting room. I have never heard anyone say not to feed a child if they were hungry, doctor's appointment or not!
That nurse is off her rocker.

That is so stupid, when my son was a newborn the doctor would tell me to feed him before she saw him (if he was crying from hunger) a doctor can not listen to a babies lungs heart etc. if the baby is screaming. The doctor & nurses have walked right into the exam roo while I was nursing & just told me to let them know when he was finished feeding. I would look for a diffrent doc, that is just rediculas

Nurse is a *****. Feed the baby when she's hungry. Nurse should be used to being spit up on by now or she's in the wrong profession. Ditto for the ones who can't stand being peed on by baby boys when they unfasten the diaper....
