The first step is to find out what your solving for. It looks like your gonna solve for q. The next step is to get all the q's on one side or in other words combine like terms. The third step is to do the arithmetic. It should look like this
-2q+q+2q=14-5
q=9 <~~~~~~~~answer

first distribute the negative (make sure you do this, this is why some of the other people got 19)
14 -2q -5 = -2q + q
then get all the qs on one side
14 - 5 = -2q + q + 2q
then subtract:
*the 14-5 becomes 9 and -2q + q= 0
so:
9 = q
best of luck

14-2q-5 = -2q + q
9 - 2q = -1q
9 = -1q + 2q
q = 9
next time y don't you ask someone to explain the basics of algebra then you won't need help next time

14-(2q+5) = -2q+q
add 2q to each side
14 – (2q+5) + -2q = q
subtract 2q from (2q) which zeroes them out
14 – 5 = q
9 = q

first you have to multipy the 14 by the stuff in the parentheses so it will look like 14(2q), 14(5), dont forget the negative signs then you need to get all numbers to one side and all letters to the other good luck

14-2q-5=-q
9-2q=-q
9-2q+2q=-q+2q
9=q
Here's a check to show I'm right:
14-(2*9+5)=-2*9+9
14-(23)=-18+9
-9=-9

Getting a bunch of strangers to give you the answer won't help you learn anything. If you don't get it, ask your teacher for help before school tomorrow.
