Yes it is wrong to lie to anyone period if its that serious that it will hurt them at the end. The sooner you tell them the truth the sooner they will get over it and move on.

In just about every case the answer is YES, it is wrong. I don't know what the circumstances are surrounding the question. It would be better to not tell the person anything, than to tell them a lie.

If they have come right out and asked - then by all means tell the truth. If they have asked they are some what prepared to hear the painful truth.

The truth can be painful, so weigh the pro's and con's of telling the person at all. A lie gives the person a false sense of well being. Good, caring people are often tempted to tell a lie to save someones feelings. They justify it by knowing that someones feelings have been spared. As we all know, from experience, lies just do not sit well with us once we have told them.

It is never good idea to tell a lie, especially if someone asks to straight up, and you lie to them , well it could be traumatic for both of you.
When you know that the truth could hurt them, how do you think a lie is going to feel? Especially if/when the truth comes out. (It always does eventually).
Also, If you know that the truth will hurt and do not want to hurt someone, do not volunteer the information. wait until you are asked and then tell them the truth. And then be there for support if they need it.

To tell the truth is always a better bet. Lies have a way to come out eventually and it will be worse then. You don't want to deliberately set out to hurt anyone with the truth, like if a friend ask you if you like an outfit and you know you would not be caught dead in an outfit like that, a white lie is appropriate, as not to hurt your friends feelings.

I think that's what you call a "white lie." I am a very honest person but I would and have a few times, told a white lie rather then have a person feeling terrible about something awful that was said. I believe having some compassion for a person does not make you a liar. Common sense should enter into all things.

It depends, actually. The important thing is that you do not hurt anybody in anyway. Not just the person who you're "lying" to but also to the people around him or her. If you see this person wearing a hideous shirt, don't make it hard for yourself. If it's THAT awful just tell him or her so that he or she wouldn't get embarrassed in any way. If the outfit may be ugly to you it may be pretty to others. In these cases just keep your mouth shut.

But in situations that you WILL tend to hurt them like for example you've been cheating on your significant other then [insert a giant DUH here] tell them for both of your sakes. Which brings me back to the whole "it depends if someone is gonna get hurt". Let me just conclude it to.

"It's okay to lie if lying will not hurt them. If telling the truth hurts them and not telling the truth hurts them more then you better just tell the truth."

Okie?

Yes it's wrong to tell someone a lie because if you tell them a lie you will need another lie to cover that one up, then another and before you know it you have a big pile of lies and they will probably find out the truth sooner or later. It's better sooner because if they hear it from somebody else and they find out you knew they will probably get mad at you.

A lie is a lie. I believe that people will respect you more if you tell the truth. Maybe not right away, but still they will.

You should know the answer with out having to ask. Yes it's wrong how could it be right? If you can't tell them yourself then you need to get someone that can. Then that will only make you look immature. Do what you know is right.
