perhaps you should be a little more specific with your question.
if you're wanting a sypware program then get ad-aware. a free download.
if you're wanting a firewall zonealarm is a good free program.
avg for free virus protection.
mcafee is expensive but good.
symantec is expensive and gives a lot of misleading info and false virus claims. i would never consider using it again.

AVG free antivirus from www.grisoft.com. And of course you need a spyware program. I use CyberDefender antispyware2006 free version and it works great. A few months ago I wasn't running much of a spyware. I downloaded this 2006 Cyberdefender and it cleaned over 4,000 spys off my computer. Since then maybe 20 or 30 a week. Plus it has a fire wall of it's own. I like it.
I have not had a virus since I loaded AVG.

Zone alarm is good. If you want other things try getting:
Windows Defender - ccleaner - ad-aware and spybot. These are all free downloads.
You really weren't specific so I just rattled some things off
