i believe the black plague killed 1/3 of Europe at one point during the middle ages. i don't believe aids will manage that feat anytime soon.
untreated AIDS kills 5-15 years down the line. any real plague just laughs at that.

the last article i listed answers your question EXACTLY!!!

apparently, people have forgotten there is this this place called Africa where aids is spreading "like the black plague" because so many people remain uneducated on the spread of aids, not to mention those who choose to behave irresponsibly. they don't have the resources we have in the western world. so many people die every day --it is unbelievable.

here are some statistics from the web site listed below:

Aids/HIV in Africa 2005
3.2m new infections
2.4m deaths
25.8m Victims
47 yrs: Life expectancy; 62 yrs: without Aids

BUT, what must be remembered, is the disclaimer on the web site with this information: "Due to gaps in diagnosis, underreporting, and reporting delays, (and in some cases unavailability of data), officially reported AIDS cases represent only a fraction of all cases in a country. Completeness of reporting varies substantially from one country to another, with less than 10% of documentation in some countries with fewer resources."

and some info from another web site:
* 1000 38 million
* 1100 48 million
* 1200 59 million
* 1300 70 million
* 1347 75 million
* 1352 50 million

does that answer your question? possibly?

I would say absolutely true. While AIDS has not dwarfed the black plague in numbers, I believe that it eventually will.

We've come a long way from when the plague killed 1/3 of the European population. The main difference between AIDS and the plague, in my mind, is ignorance. The plague spread during a time when people didn't bathe regularly, nor did they wash their clothes regularly. Many believed that bathing was actually BAD for you. Waste was not disposed of properly, most of the time it was dumped in the street for you to walk through. The plague was spread through the bite of fleas (as people later discovered), and fleas were widespread due to the lack of personal hygiene and clean environments. Fleas live in clothes, and are hard to remove from seams if the clothes are not washed regularly. Soldiers fighting in the trenches of World War I had a MAJOR problem with fleas living in their clothes, all because their clothes could not be washed regularly. So the plague spread rapidly due to ignorance more than anything else. The plague ran its course, and we've discovered treatments and cures. (And also proper hygiene and pest removal)

AIDS continues to spread, despite our education about the disease. It will continue to spread because so many people have the "it won't happen to me" belief. People aren't always careful. We mess up, and we aren't as diligent because we have this belief that because we are careful most of the time we are okay. We don't get tested as often as we should, so we enter situations not knowing if we are safe or not. And the sad truth is that there are people in this world who know they carry the disease and choose not to do anything to protect the people around them. We as humans know of the dangers, educate others of the dangers, take precautions, and still the disease spreads. The plague kills fairly quickly -- you can be HIV positive for years without knowing. There is no cure for AIDS as of yet. As long as we continue to refuse to accept AIDS as an epidemic, it will continue to spread. Sooner or later it will surpass the plague in casualties. I believe AIDS is the much greater crisis.

False. The plague wiped out 1/3 of humanity. AIDs is maybe 1%.

FALSE. But soon to be TRUE if prostitution, drugs, and other AIDS transmitting things continue. AIDS is a silent killer. It may not sound alarming yet in other countries but is quick to spread. Look at sub-saharan africa where 3/4 and more f their population is affectd with AIDS.

I think people who have aids live much longer than people who had the black plague. the plague was much more contagious.I used to be friends with a guy with aids. we hung out all the time,I would not hang out with any one with the plague.we aren't friends any more because he's a selfish little turd, not because of his sickness.false
