Any Famous Elys in England? other than the town?

I was told that through my fathers family (He is an Ely) that we are decended from a Lord who's son was sent to the Americas. Can someone help me with any information. Sorry but I can't give a year or other date, I am just trying to find out if this can be true or not. Thank you.
